Has Anyone tried this in 135i???? is it possible to run a big hose like that threw the car.... and a cut off valve would be nice... something so you can turn the CAI at the track and off for usual use to avoid sucking in water on a rainy day...

Sucking in water is not going to be an issue because there are 2 filters being used--The drop in filter in the stock box and the filter in the bumper. If the filter in the bumper was completely submerged under water then the air will enter the engine through the stock ducting going through the drop in filter. Think about the path of least resistance.

I am surprised no one has cut the hood and stuck a giant good scoop on there! LOL
Mr. 5, I am very interested in the results you find with the mod. Ultimately, I mandrel bent 3" pipes would offer an improvement over the flexi-hose. Vasil |

Ya know what would be cool: to have a throttle plate that shuts off the hose to the cone filter, and attach that throttle to an actuator controlled by the pressure in the diverter valve hose. You could probably modify an actuator from a junkyard heater mixing valve to do this, or could do it electrically with a pressure switch and a solenoid. Then, you put the OEM paper filter in the stock airbox. When cruising, you get the quietness and filtration abilities of a stock car. Step on it, and you get the cone filter.
It'd be even cooler to modify the exhaust flap into a muffeler bypass valve that's actuated the same way. You'd go from a quiet stock cruiser to an open intake and exhaust just by flooring it. |

The way it's hooked up now is as close to stock as it can get but you get the power (actually even better) than a DCI. The way it is now is just making the engine breathe better with all conditions (part or full throttle).

when you used stock box by itself, i'm assuming you still used a higher flowing panel filter? I haven't seen this written up in any of your testing of the different systems.

Now, I am using the Macht Schnell panel filter along with the Mach Schnell universal filter with my Mr. 5 Intake.

As for the sound, the auxiliary filter is so far away from the cabin that there is almost no sound difference over stock. |

Disclaimer * I am not an engineer and I am basically going from often my self-admittedly fuzzy memory or "talking out of my ass" as I have heard you guys say.
1. I thought that when there were two sources of intake air then the "system" uses whichever one has the least resistance, but not both. 2. I also think the stock system is "ram air" and pressurizes the intake box, which is negated by the extra arm. However, I'm sure Dinan has several engineers that would have seen this immediately. |

I need to get started on my Mr. 5 intake soon, so I've been searching for components.
For the air box mount what do you think about these: http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-81413-...8210906&sr=1-8 Has a plug for a flow sensor... maybe a IAT before turbos would be cool http://www.westmarine.com/1/1/10592-...se-flange.html probably too short http://www.harrisonplastic.com/pvcdi...ns.html#flange PVC options http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air...flange-731.php only 2.5" ID and the height is a little small. But 2.5" may work better for routing and still give good results. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...uctflanges.php VERY good option it seems The other rout would be a custom flange from a machine shop, but that will be costly. I would think with the right part, you could secure the hose adapter with the fit between flange, hose, and clamp... no sealant necessary. 2 3" o-rings could be used around the air box with the clamped hose holding the assembly. Any thoughts here?? Thanks guys |

I have Dinan CAI, I ran through a puddle mindlessly didn't even think about it. It was up to my floor board. I have no issue at all. No way it sucks any water. It looks like it would, but infact it would not.
