I have my radar detector hardwired into the fusebox, by tapping into the homelink fuse.

Would this cause any concern when I take it in for the recall? It will be a PITA to remove and redo the whole thing.

Just a heads up to people in a similar position as I am.

I had this issue taken care of back late last year at my local BMW dealership. Replaced the B+ cable and the fuse box costing over $1500 in parts and labor (majority was labor). Now, with this recall I am pushing for reimbursement. I called the 800-525-7417 BMWNA number and spoke with a rep. She stated I will need to wait for my recall letter, which will be delieved around the first week of March. Then take that letter along with my repair reciept into the dealership, and I should be refunded.

So, this is the hope. We'll see how long it takes for this letter to arrive as well as the push back from the dealership wanting to keep the $1500. Once I get the money, it'll be going right back in their pocket for tires and oil change. Haha.

The dealer is not the one that will credit you. You will need to submit a claim with BMW. Instructions will come with the letter.

I have posted on many wierd electrical threads that this was the issue..my car started with small anoying alarms till on one morning no start and every code in the book was displayed in my dash including the fraulein with the big rack and the beer stein..I think my tech cleared 90 codes? anyhow get a good tech at the dealership because this requires alot of time to do right...new cable from battery to B+ teminal in fuse panel and splicing into harness...repaired over 1.5 years ago no other problems. He said it took him 6hrs.

Either the issue only affects newer cars or they are going to ignore us due to the age of our cars. We will never know the real answer. my gut thinks this was a change to the production of the newer cars and that we are safe.

Yes there are different styles of connections at the junction box (fuse box). Some of the early cars have a standard connection with a stud/nut connection that won't be an issue. Other cars have a quick coupler that looses its tension over time and creates a voltage drop that is the source of the issue.
It's not that you will never know if you are not effected, it's that you'll never have the issue in the first place.

I'm hoping for jphoman that they state or prove the cable needed replacement due to the connectors damaging the entire cable. Otherwise they are going to get cute when he tries to get money back for the entire cable

I'm not sure what was stated in the police report. I told them the car stalled, but they didn't seem to believe me. I was 21 at the time, so the cops kept questioning if I was speeding. Heck, they never even asked if I was ok. Anyways, people rarely win when suing these corporations. It would have been a big hassle. Plus it's hard to prove anything now because the car is long gone.

If you look at the posting with the PDF's
The cable runs straight back from the fuse box to the outside
+ terminal on the battery distribution block.
Doesn't go under the Hood at all.

My guess is the old procedure is quite expensive because they replace
the whole cable due to the burnt connector on the end. I bet now they
are supplying tools to cut the old connector off and attach a new one
instead.
