You could mask the thread and paint them silver or black - but then you need to take care in putting them on off, using a lined socket would help.

I painted mine black with Hammerite as long as you give them plenty of time to dry they hold up well! 3 months on look just as good

Slightly off topic, but where can you get a lined socket? I'm sure I've seen some before with a tough plastic inside but not been able to find any for sale and the colour on my nuts is getting scratched horrifically

Well I had to put them back on after painting, and they have been off and on once since, still holding up, plenty of thin coats seemed to do the trick

Thinking about this again, I think i might have it wrong. I was thinking of the sockets which are lined outside, so as not to scratch the rims. Will look into it and let you know if I spot them, I thought halfords used to sell the sockets that are lined inside but I could be making that up.

EDIT: Sockets that are lined outside: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-DRIVE-...-/321018653804

Still looking for those lined inside.

I've had another check after reading through this and can only find ones lined outside like yourself.

I have seen people on forums saying to put a carrier bag over the nuts so it is between them and the socket and that helps... worth a try I guess haha
