Thanks to a review from a certain E92Fan aka Big Tone I've decided that the Continentals were the way to go..

I was planning to go for Michelin Super sports but no stock in 255/30/19 So decision made.


I have previously run Falkens, Sessantas, Eagle F1 Assyms, Toyo Proxes and Dunlop SP Sport maxx but none of them on a car with this kind of power.

My experience of all of the above (And I'll accept that the Eagles have "come a long way" as they now receive rave reviews and always used to be considered as pretty terrible 5-6 years ago when I last ran them) is that the Falkens win on RWD. Yes, seriously. I really enjoyed the way Falkens handled. At least with the relative torque of the 320d and 350z.

So I'm really intrigued to see how the conti's perform.


Well. This is the whole topic. It's not much of a topic, but hey - the site isn't exactly chock to the brim of high brow content right now so why not post it


Anyone else got any experience of running these tyres on a mapped 335d IE on the starship enterprise?

I think its a perfect choice.. they perform beautifully on the track as well

The Falkens are funny tbh, some people on this site rav about them whereas others say they are OK...for a medium budget tyre but not in the same league as the premiums.

My previous experience with Falkens when I ran them on a Skyline where they were pretty decent but not brilliant, however what I didn't like about them was that they went of very quickly, I barely got 6000 miles out of a set of mine.

I am looking forward to hearing your thought's on the Conti's as I am also switching away from RFT's soon and this is one of the options on my list

I've got the conti 5ps on my car...brilliant tyres. I've done 10k miles in mine already and they have been nothing but spot on!

Done almost 15,000 on them and still going strong. A revelation compared to the crap Bridgestone runflats.

I've got the Conti 5P's 235/265, pretty good, and before you ask, Tony advised 37-39 psi, I personally found them better with 39-41 psi.

No signs of inner edge wear either.

Got them fitted on my rears, will switch my fronts (currently Bridgestone RFTS) to them soon.

Sounds like a dangerous configuration. You need to get that sorted sooner rather than later.

Its not dangerous as long as you have the same tyres on each axel

I was going to go Michelin to replace the RFTs but I've heard great things about the contis. Down side is that on 18s (not that this affects you!) you can only get the 5Ps on the back (or was it the front) and for the fronts, you have to get normal 5s. Don't think it would be too much of a drama though, but I'd prefer 4x tyres of the same make and model.

But as I said, with 5Ps that fit, they're meant to be the nut sack.

I've got 235/265 conti 5p's on my 335d, absolutely outstanding grip and feel and very very re-assuring in the wet, seem to be lasting well also. My only small criticism would be they are not the quietest tyre but got better once worn in a bit. You'll love them!

I come from the camp that thinks Falken were average at best when new and pretty poor after a few thousand miles.

As I understand it guys, the 5P was the new flagship tyre, only made in 19"-23" sizes. The 5 has identical technical charateristics but is available down to 17" to make it accessible to more *ahem* mainstream cars.

Mixing and matching the two shouldn't cause any problems at all, unless your OCD stetches to checking the writing on the sidewall

I've been running 5Ps on my M3 CS for the last 10 months. Great tyre. Loads of grip and feedback in both dry and wet conditions. Tyre wear is also very good. Admittedly I don't drift round every roundabout or constant radius curve, but I reckon I'm about 30% worn on the rears in 10k of mixed driving. the fronts don't look touched.

My only slight criticism is that the sidewalls do appear to be a little soft when the occasional pothole or bump is encountered. You can feel/sense the sidewall flexing through the steering wheel. Sounds odd, but it could be what makes them a great all rounder and I'll happily live with that.

I've been running them for about 17k miles and my rears are just about down to the wear bars - here's hoping they last until I stick the winters on in November! I've been very pleased with them for comfort and grip.
