HD Radio Retrofit for 3 series? -- E90Fleet?

Can it be done? Apparently BMW offers HD Radio on every one of their models except the 3 series.

90% of the radio stations in my are are broadcasting in HD and I'd love to be able to take advantage of that. Anyone know of a receiver that can be swapped out for the existing one?

For E90Fleet: What is it that makes a car receive HD radio? Can that part be ordered from BMW (as an OEM from the 5 series or whatever) and then swapped with the regular radio receiver in a 3 series?

I don't know if it can be done... but I believe it axes the traffic updates for the nav system.

I don't get the RTTI anyway so it doesn't matter.

If you already have Sirius, get the iPod Interface. HD Radio is overrated, the iPod provides better sound fidelity.

I've already got my iPod hooked up through the AUX output with a Griffin AirClick Remote so I can control it while my iPod is inside the arm rest which is good enough for me. Not worth it to me to spend $600. Besides, I doubt the HD radio part needed would be more than $150. Labor might be $200, don't know what's involved.

I was wondering the same thing. it's got to be just a tuner upgrade i would think. it would be nice to know if you order the part from 5-series or whatever.

Red face HD Retrofit/Module

I pursued this same interest with BMW - told not possible. Then I found an HD module for the 325 at realoem.com at this link http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...97&hg=65&fg=05. My dealer ordered it for me - about $425. Found out from their intall tech that the HU in my model (HiFi - not Logic 7) would not work with this module. I am awaiting its arrival and maybe well see/get lucky.

I was wondering how to get it, too. My E90 manual has a section on HD Radio, so how would they not offer HD? Same goes with weather band (WB).

It has a special reciever/controler unit that is added and probably some software

I havent seen any form of retrofit kit for it yet

I dont knwo why they havent got it on the 3 Series options yet, since there are parts listed for it.
Maybe the software isnt available yet
