Me too, as it's something I want to do. Those stinky fumes from classic cars and the like are now getting into the cabin.

Really easy to do - 10 min job.
There about 8 small bolts to remove on the microfilter housing cover. From memory the only thing to watch out for is that the replacement filter is put in the correct way round as it only fits one way. Hardest part is not dropping the bolts into the engine bay. Bought my filter for £25 of Ebay too. Would imagine a dealer would charge circa £100 for parts and labour! The OBC can be reset to indicate that you have changed the microfilter too. There is a procedure somewhere on E90 that I used also. I've copied and pasted it below. This is from the sticky somewhere. I copied it to Word and saved it as a file so I would loose it. Works perfect. Guys I looked everywhere (maybee not hard enough ) for a DIY service reset for E90 but couldn`t find one. So decided to try the E60 DIY which wasn`t too far off. I realise most cars are still under warranty but I will use this to replace my own brake pads and microfilter instead of being fleeced by the $tealers. Step 1 Insert key into slot Step 2 Press start/stop button without depressing clutch/brake and wait for the service reminder to dissapear. Step 3 Immediately after service reminder goes out, press and hold the odometer reset. After 3 secs a warning triangle will appear, keep the odo. button pressed and after another 2-3 secs the Oil can will appear. I f you hold it too long (10 secs in total) you will overshoot the runway and some German writing will appear giving the software level/ can bus etc. of the car. Go back to the beginning and start again. Step 4 You are now in the service menu, use the toggle switch on indicator stalk to scroll up/down through the various service items. Step 5 When you have the item you want to reset showing, press the BC button on end of indicator stalk. Reset should now appear in the display. Press in and hold the BC button for 2-3 secs and a clock will start whirling around and hey presto, its done Step 6 You can now either scroll up/down to select another item (as in step 4) or you can press the start/stop button to exit. |

I just changed the microfilter on the 320 and 335 at the weekend. When they were in for a service, the dealer wanted an extra £50 to replace the microfilter - so I said No.
I too bought the microfilters on Ebay for £25 each and the installation is exactly as described above. Very easy. The only thing is: I can see no reference to the microfilter in the service entries. Either normally thru the i-drive <Service Info> - or when you do the reset sequence above.

If you're interested the micro filter change at the dealer cost me £67 today.
Laziness stopped me doing it myself and the fact that the dealer said he would do it immediately as I had dropped in without warning as I had a free unexpected morning off. I have changed these in the past. It is a simple 10 min job. Oh, I noticed that I probably saved a whopping £1.50 in VAT due to the change. Big Wow. |

Here you go. A great price for it too.
I have bought from these guys before (rear pads, fuel filter, wiper blades) and can confirm that they are genuine parts. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Original-BMW-M...1%7C240%3A1318

Microfilter reinstallation
Bump...I was having difficulty getting the proper alignment so that the screw holes would match up in the housing itself. I noticed I had to almost bend the housing to get it to fit the screws to match up with their holes. Is there any specific way that I should line up the housing before screwing in the screws?
