Thinking of buying used 2007 335i coupe...thoughts please!!!
Features include premium package, sport package, cold weather package, and navigation. Basically fully loaded right? Only has 30,000 miles which is the main reason I'm thinking of buying. He's the original owner and asking $24,500. Kbb value is 25-26K seems like. Problem is warranty is expired.
Does it seem like good price...what should I offer? No warranty makes me nervous...car fax checks out. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks |

If buying this car or equivalent, then buy a car with or partial warranty. Then you won't have buyers regret.

any thoughts from you experts on fair price to offer? He says due for oil change, brake fluid change next month....spark plugs and brake pads in 15k miles. how much will that stuff cost and can it only be done at dealer?

has the HPFP ever been replaced? Seems like 07 and 08 had more problems with those... price seems a little high to me as I paid less than that for a '09 w/ all the same options granted with 70K miles but in pristine shape.

I don't even know what I would say if someone called me about a car I was selling and asked me to buy them an extended warranty. On a serious note, I believe you can not buy the extended warranty through BMW once the original new car warranty has expired. Atleast that is what the Vegas dealership told me, other dealerships might be more than willing to take your $3000.

One thing I would watch for is a leaking mechatronic sleeve and/or tranmission oil pan. Very common, and if not covered under warranty is about a $700-1000 fix done at the dealer. Look under the car, if you see the trans oil pan has oil on it, make them get it fixed, knock $1000 off, or pass. it will show up as possibly very small drips (maybe not even enough to drip) in the area further back from the oil drain plug. You can see the trans oil pan even with the underbody sheathing on, there is a gap between the front and rear covers, this is the area you'll see if there are any leaks.

If you want a warranty, or even a car less likely to need one, just buy a new car. My 2 cents.

Was there a recall on the fuel pump? If he has yearly maintenance at the dealer would they automatically fix it? |

I'd get him to back down on the price some, and then contact an independent shop with a good reputation to quote you their price on doing the required maintenance. My 07 has 40K miles on it, still on the original brakes, although I'll likely have those replaced in the next few months. I still use the dealer for oil changes, and that runs me under $90 with BMW CCA discount. If the car hasn't been abused (doesn't sound like it has) and you treat it well, it should be a great car to enjoy for several years.
And yes, you can take it to the dealer (or a good Indy shop) and get it inspected, but prices will vary.

I dont think anyone mentioned this yet, but pay for a pre-paid inspection (PPI). About $150 at a local Indy familiar with BMWs. The seller should allow this, if not walk away. The shop can look into the oil pan leak. The price seems fair considering the mileage and yes, you can buy an extended warranty from a BMW dealer and cost is around $1800 to $3000 depending on the timeline, car status, and coverage. FYI...you can also handle some of the maintenance yourself, if you are not mechanically inclined there are many DIY's in this forum. A good way to learn and will save you $$$.

And yes, OP, a PPI is an excellent idea. Either a shop that knows BMWs well, or the dealer. HPFP has a recall, 100K miles and I forget how long, but it will still be covered. I'm not sure if they will just automatically replace it at the dealer, or if it has to fail before they'll replace it.

Depends on the dealer and what options (warranty) they have. I bought a 3rd party warranty from my dealer in the past. There was also a group buy on extended warranties from a dealer in the 1Addicts forum last year.

i agree. Thats what my 09 is KBB at. I wouldnt buy one of these things without warranty. In the last 4000kms they have replaced the radio, 3 injectors and plugs, steering hoses, hvac fan, steering pump, steering rack and just did 3 more injectors and plugs. I realize some of this is bad luck but these are all problems that have occurred with other BMW drivers.

I don't know if i'd go with a 2007. that's the first model year and will likely have a lot of problems.
worth buying a warranty or saving up a little more for a newer model

Remember your turbo wastegates are covered 84mo/82K miles, which sort of covers turbos, but not completely.
