I Need a Geek!!!

I have a MAC and have backed up all my photos and music to a USB "Seagate Go" drive.

When I plug the drive into a Windows XPS, where I want to copy my files onto, the drive is picked up in the device manager in the lower right hand corner, but I when I go to "My Computer" the drives doesn't show up.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

that's like the problem i have with iPod. Did that Seagate come with software? if it did try accessing it thru that. MAC is PITA these days, they're doing what microsoft did in the 80's!

go on seagate's website and download it, or try download.com and put in your drive's name.

another question, have you ever formatted that drive? XP *might* require you to format it which means u'll lose everything in it. but that's a *might*.

is it a USB type storage?

Just a thought. It seems that every usb drive related device that you plug into windows show up as "F" drive. So, before you plug in a usb thumb drive or any usb external drives, make sure "F" is not already been assigned. If so, temporarily disconnect "F" logically and then plug in the USB drive.

neah.. mine go to E, or D... that shouldnt be the problem.

What he can do is he can go and detect it under computer management console (right click my computer, and click 'manage'), and go to 'Device Manager' on the left hand side) then try to look it up, refresh it, or disconnect/reconnect it from there.

that should be fine. at least i think so. Might be a malfunction or something. does it have other interfaces than USB? like fire-wire, sata, etc?

It's just USB.

I went into the MAC disk utility and it shows the format as "MAC OS Extended".

My Jump Drive, which works perfectly showed a format of MS-DOS.

Does that mean I should reformat the Seagate drive to MS-DOS?

I just want to be able to copy and paste on both machines.

Found a program called MacDrive on the Seagate site. I downloaded a 5 day trial on the PC and since I installed it, it recognizes the drive.

This helps me for today, but there has to be a cheaper way then buying software for this...
