M3 challenge is back on!

Manager at work has a e92 M3 Frozen edition, standard other than a Evolve x-pipe.

Keeps on about a race at Santa Pod despite me killing him on the A5 [ upto 70 mph obviously]

Anyway, now he wants to race up the Pod for £500. Best of 3 timed runs.
Now I dont want to shy away from a race but, is it best to wait for the meth kit to be fitted or would i have enough to take him now?

Take the bet?

If the track is over 1/8mile US, I would install the meth and validate operation before racing him. If you have it, mind as well use to ensure victory, especially for 500 monopoly dollars!

Sparky68 the only thing that would worry me is raw traction off the lights as he will have a LSD

Brake boost should take care of that.

There does seem to be a lot of M3s setting poor times. Not sure how much the drivers can be blamed over and over.

There is quite a few going quick though.

Have you done the 1\4 mile and have times previously?

14.7 was literally turn up and run. Road tyre pressures, no brake boost and no jb4.

14.7 is very poor for a standard 335i. Should be in the 13s.

Not sure I'd be confident if you aren't rehearsed in setting good times.

You don't need meth.

I ran 12.8 and consistently around 13.0 with just JB4.
Tyres down to 10psi. This was in the afternoon when there weren't many people around so plenty of heat in the tyres.

I had DCT which he will probably have too and it is difficult to get off the line.
If you brake boost with auto at around 2500rpm that should do it.

By the time he is up and running you will be well away. The V8 will start to reel you in but it will be too late by then. This has been my experience of running against numerous M3's.

Saying all that an experienced 1/4 miler can run a standard M3 DCT at 12.7 or lower, but I doubt he is one of these people.

If I still had my 335i I would have snatched his hand off.
Mind you if you got a monkey riding on it, be careful not to start off too eager. It's amazing what a bit of money on it can do to the nerves.

Give me a shout when you go, I'll come over and watch.

You should walk it.
And if he had have been in your car he would know that. The M3's top end screem will be no match for the 335i's low down pull over 1/4 mile.
Grip would be my only worry as he will have a lsd. But my money would still be on the 335.

I reckon it will be closer than you think, once above 70 the M3 will start pulling it back (if it its actually behind), does he have a tune with his x-pipe? (id assume so as it seems pointless without it) torque is one thing but the M3 up top is a quick car. Still think this will be close (assuming someone doesn't spaz something up) so time will tell..

Practise your pull offs at every set of lights now until you go to race...... Only joking

Is yours manual? Or his?
To me could play a big part as the auto will always be slower out of the blocks

I've owned both cars and have the experienced the mods for each car...

There really isn't anything in it.

If you get some slick or semi slick rear tyres that will be the winner every time.

By the way don't enter a race to 155 mph the M will leave you for dust above 135 mph!!
