****Official monaco GP Thread****

Anyone watching practise 3 this morning. Red flag due to Rosberg crashing under braking for the chicane. Car skewed
right into the Armco then skate straight on and just misse the barrier where Wendlinger put himself in a coma in '94 and where Button knocked himself
out in 2003!! Had rosberg hit it then ouchy!!!!

He missed it and hit another barrier on the left at low speed!

Looking forward to Quali!

that part of the track is very bumpy and lots of folk from GP2 and the Formula Renault 3.5 mob have had similar accidents...

when you look at the data it is in the braking zone... not what you need really !!

i think they were also running a high fuel load as the car was bottoming quite badly through the tunnel...

schumacher also had a shunt in P1 on thursday and did a fair bit of damage so those boys have been pretty busy this weekend !!

Yeah loads of accidents there over the years in all Formulas.

Will never forget Wendlingers. Lucky to be alive he was. Ruined his F1 career. Was never the same again.

Shunt for Perez, similar to Wendlingers in '94. I'm sure he is ok but KO'd.

High cockpit sides and with that special barrier hopefully he is fine.

just been looking at our data... in Q1 Heikki was doing 174mph at the exit of the tunnel before hitting the brakes where Perez had his shunt...

on the brakes he pulls around 3 negative G...

just goes to show how strong the cars are built these days...

hope he recovers quickly from the shunt...

did you notice they'd remove the 'strips' in that corner between P3 and Qualifying... good job really given the angle and lack of wheels he went into the chicane at...

i'm heikki's systems engineer...

so software wise i make sure the car is set up and works correctly...

...and when it's on track i make sure the gearbox, hydraulic, electrical and suspension are doing what they should... and if not try and react to it and hopefully keep the car running...

...do this via our telemetry systems that i also have to get running...

there's loads that i do... but in a nutshell... sit behind a computer being a geek all day...

right, time for some brekky before those vile porsche supercup cars go out...

cheers,

ian b

Well if you have to be a geek then thats probbably the best job in geekdom.

On a serious note its sounds amazing. In your opinion just how much more investment does your team need to start ,moving up the field?

Also can Mclaren really make a serious bid for the title against Redbull. Or is the car just to good in high speed corners?

may appear to be a geek but trust me i'm not...

we just need time rather than investment - not having KERS is hurting us on starts and in the race... but from where we started we've made huge strides...

as for McLaren... well funny you should mention them as i'm leaving Lotus to join them in August !! i think they'll win races this year no question, but for the championship maybe not this year but who knows with this game !!

cheers,

nothing wrong with that mate...

it is a dream job, but the lifestyle isn't great when you've a family... but for sure... mustn't grumble !! plus it takes a lot of determination and self belief to get here... back in my BTCC days i thought i'd peaked !!

There is when you see the same 4 walls each and everyday lol.

Getting to where you are I'm sure wasn't easy...but hard work surely pays off as it seems.

Good luck to you today and your future with Mclaren

I think Maclaren are there!! Race pace wise anyhow!

The Maclaren was a better car in Catalunya! oK Vett didn't have KERS which slowed him.

If Di Resta got a penalty, surely Hamilton has to get one too?

Without doubt, the most exciting Minaco GP for years.
Nothing processionary about this one.

Seems to be the story for every track so far.

Shame for the safety car and now red flag as I type.

Killed an exciting end.
