Now I'm worried

MetOffice is showing >80% chance of heavy snow all day/night Friday and all day/night Saturday for my area and the area I work. I'm not going to have time to put the winters back on tonight and I need to get to work. SHIT!

Relax

I forgot to fit my winters - at all - this winter, and managed just fine. Just drive carefully if you do get any snow.

If it's fresh snow you will be fine. I got caught out in the 6 series last week went we had a dumping of snow. I managed a 20 mile journey on motorways and B roads which hadn't been gritted.

Think I would find a chance to get them fitted, won't take that long. No point in having them in the garage while you are out having an accident.

It's amazing you're still alive Del!

Under normal circumstances, death is the norm for BMW drivers caught out in snow without winter tyres fitted.

I'd suggest writing a 'blog' about your experience, and how you survived, it would make fascinating reading and might earn you a few bob

My winters have been off since start of Feb, been out many times in the snow since, haven't come close to getting stuck. My winter tyres were on the car for a total of 8 weeks, they are now well and truly hidden amounts all the rubbish in the garage, I'm not sure I'll ever bother fitting with them again.

I was in Ashford (eventaully after six hours stuck on M25 the previuos evening)
Trying to get to Dungeness in the bimmer.
We got to Lydd, did a few slow-mo donuts outside the cop shop as they laughed out loud at me.
Then went back to the bar.

Bloody good fun lol

Remember, it matters not a jot what car and tyres you have.
If the road is blocked with other stranded cars you will go nowhere without a tank.

So why - when its still rarely above 6deg - are you lot taking OFF the winter tyres?
Doh!
Steve

Dont even bother with them! We dont tend to get a lot of snow around here though and when we do just take the mini to work.

On snow you need really light right foot. Low rpm. Second gear to start move. It's manageable on summer tyres but not with slick tyres

Because the new wheels and tyres were sat in the garage begging me to fit them and last Friday I could no longer resist. I'm stupid, I know

Still have my winters on. It's not yet averaged above 7deg so far this year.

NEXT weekend is the latest candidate.. But I said that for the first time a month ago.

That be the same day/night Steve. I laughed out loud as the Police X5 which undertook me in Sellindge then stopped to talk to an oncoming motorist and got stuck themselves. Their little fold away shovel saved their day.

I've managed all winter on my normal tires. I haven't died, I haven't got stuck and the car is still in one piece!

I got caught last Tuesday in France, woke up to loads of snow, 500km away from Calais.

Luckily I did have my winter tyres on, managed the 500km in 6 hours, I wouldn't have even bothered on summer tyres.

They put the UK to shame, as soon as a vehicle struggles they pull over so everyone else can continue, we need to do the same over here.

This is the outside lane of the Autoroute, the two inside lanes were covered in snow drifts, as I said above, 500km in 6 hours, in this.....

I didn't bother driving my Bm this winter through snow and icy conditions as I bought a swb shogun which did the trick nicely
