E92 M3 Side Skirt Style Fitment Issue

Hi,

I just got from the paint shop my E92 M3 Side Style which I got from **********. So I couldnt wait and while having some day light left, I went ahead and took of the OEM driver side skirt (I have a 2009 335ix coupe), straight forward. I took of the metal things that I had to re-use where the 8mm screws go at the back and I took of the 4 plastic clips that hold the skirt at the rear. I installed them on the new one. I put it on and it just doesnt fit right.

I was wondering if anyone had issues like that. I thought it should fit well. SO I took it off and put back my OEM skirt, fit like a glove as it was getting dark. I will give it a shot again tomorrow morning.

Anyway I just wanted to see if there are anyone who run into something like that or if there is some sort of a trick I have to do while installing it.

Any pics please share.........I was looking forward for this mod and now feel disappointed

Thanks

RB

I have yet to see a 335i with m3 sides that have a "perfect" oem fitment. I have oem m3 sides on mine and it is close to being spot on. I would say like a 95% fit on it. On two sides near the wheels theres a little extra gap but its hardly noticeable unless you're starring right at it. Here's a picture.

Yup, I recently just installed M3 rep side skirts and fitment is about 95% There off towards the rear wheel wells, still super happy with them!

Ok so I should not expect 100% fitment that ease the blow......

How to explain that, I think the fitment issue I am running into is at least for the driver side since I just tried there is near the front wheel at the bottom there is like a gap which I dont see it on the stock. ALso at the rear where those 4 clips attach to the car seems they dont make the side skirt flush. I feel I need to replace the clips with ones having like 3mm less height.

I hope I am making sense

kkakonn thanks for the pic looks sweet

That's why I haven't done this mod--afraid that would drive me nuts, even though no one would notice but me. I'm thinking of going m-sport skirts instead, for better fit and a subtler look.

So you installed OEM M3 skirts on your E92 and didn't have to modify a thing & they fit that good?

I was always going to try, but of course saw the disclaimer on Tischer site about modifications necessary - didn't want to get involved with that so I went rep...

My rep fit fine lengthwise and match up with front/rear openings, I do have a slight mismatch with the rear wheel opening contouring line as in one of the pics above. Biggest problem was when installed using holes/fasteners along door sill as the skirts were made - they actually bowed in from the bottom of the door along a certain length & were not flush with door.

I ended up using sticks to hold the skirt outward & mock up how much further they needed to stick out to be flush, drilled new holes thru skirt and car for (3) of the fasteners, and used them to attach skirt - now skirt is flush along entire length of door.

There was not enough play in the as supplied skirt holes to get them flush...

328i E93 m3 styled skirts fitment issue

I am new here, but I will try to do this right. I will answer your question about the fitment and not head off on another issue. I just bought 100% fitment side skirts from MODBAR--S (IN missing). They are nice. I fitted them but did not bolt them up tight. I had them painted and I returned them to the car for final fitment. The front popped on perfectly. The back popped on perfectly. I had to use the old clips since the clips I got with my side skirts fit something else entirely. Then I climbed underneath and then began to bolt them up from the front to the back.

Last two plastic bolts underneath, and rear bolts do not line up. I pushed and pushed and got the first one in but no go onthe others. I peaked inside the skirt and on the E93 2008 328I, I could see that the frame/body had a little shelf that did not touch any where except the last six inches where the skirt curves in. PANIC..... Well, I took out the grinder and removed about 1/2 inch about 2 inches long where it was pressing against the skirt. Then I tried again and the skirt fit. I painted the grinding and it really was not noticable.

Now when i peak inside, I can see this lip which looks like it has rectangle drains does not touch the skirt anywhere. Its not 100% fitment and the parts that were included go to something else. Thank god I had my parts. I hope this helps. Oh yeah, for those who complain, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I wish it was an M-3, but it isn't. Cudos to those who own the real ones.

You can either use the same mounting hardware from your factory side skirts or use the ones provided in the kit. Screws are not visible with the door open since your car has a cover when you open the door (the plastic one that says BMW).

Install

I had no problems with the install. The clips that came with it go to something else. getting any help from Modbargai_S (n Missing) has become an issue. great service until I called.

All the parts from my old skirt fit. I popped off the old one, slid on the clips and popped it back on. I did hit the frame. My question to jpmods is does yours hit the same area and is grinding it down the fix. I cant find any answers from anyone else.
