Yes I had this happen on mine, there is a sprung/latching plunger that pushes the cap out when you push in. Easy to replace and costs about £7 from BMW. I can get the part number when I get home. Simple to snap out the old one and push the new one in.

Its this part
4 BUFFER STOP WITH EJECTOR 1 51178228939 $7.63

That is way better than on my audi s3. I was quoted £170 for the part and £40 for labour!

its just possible the central locking pin has stuck in the flap holding it shut slide a card down where the pin is with the car unlocked and see if you can feel the pin.

wd40 into the buffer stop may help , due to the cold maybe its frozen?

i was thinking this too but if that parts only £7 i dont mind trying it first

thanks for taking the time to get me the part number and pic! it was indeed this. simply pulled the old one out and pushed the newen in.
