Did you replace the strut mounts?

I didn't replace the mounts because the car only has 28k miles on it. There is an obvious rub mark on the inside wall of the tower. I'll try to get a pic this weekend. I'm not sure how a knock is producing a rub mark. I thought everything above the top of the spring were non-moving parts.

Here's a picture of my setup. Bilstein B12 kit + Supreme Power lowering perches. Wheels are 18" Style 197. 8" front with no spacer (had to remove spacer due to rubbing after lowering perches were installed). 8.5" rear + 18mm spacer.

Strut, spring perch and spring are articulating together. Only the strut mount is stationary. The rub is not from the knock and those are two different issues.
If the rest of the components are good the know is from the strut mounts.
Possible causes:strut shaft is lose or too tight, incorrect washer position, missing washer or the Dinan plates are loose.

Here is what I believe to be the source of the noise. The perch rim is hitting the wall and causing resistance. This makes the rub mark seen here, and the clunk while the spring turns independently of the perch during the point where clearance is the least.

My question is, is it safe to grind down the rim of the perch to add clearance?

Yes it is, for example all aftermarket adjustable camber plates that use stock size springs use OEM trimmed perches.

Could we get a couple more pictures of your ride height at different angles? Your front looks pretty low to me with the perches. Thanks!

Yeah I'll try to take some more pictures. The front tires are very slightly tucked under the fenders.

For XI you must replace the strut mounts as well. No mystery pieces ?you have all you need in the box.

Wow that is quite a drop.
So without the lower rubber pads it really does make a difference. So this is completely noise free?

No, that rubber pad is 2-3mm,so yes, it add to the total drop but the difference is negligible.

I have ran with and without pads. Both times had experiencing noise. Both times unrelated with the pad itself.

It was from the spring rubbing on that welded on arch piece on the side on the perch and also the perch hitting the strut mount when the suspension is super under load.

VERY dangerous I should say at the very least.

Yes, there's no rubber pads at all nor at the top nor at the bottom.
I'm assuming some people have noise problem with old oem high mileage shocks when they lower it.
BTW I'm on yellow KONI Race adjustable shocks, no noises at all

New control arms, new sway bar links. Noise with pads. Noise with out pads. Noise went away when I removed the SP perches.

So, will these work with my e93 M3? If so, will they affect my EDC?
