Zaino Newbie result and questions...

Finally, I did my first Zaino detail.
It was easy and turn out great!
Took me around 4.5 hours to wash, clay and 3 layers of Z2+ZFX and Z6 in between.

So I went out took some photos...and it start raining...
I did a quick rinse and dry when I got home.
Here are the questions..

1. Did I just washed off my Zaino? Should I put another layer of Z2 + ZFX? or just Z2?
2. Should I put one layer every month?

Thanks guys!

No. Zaino is supposed to bead water. Proper washing should not hurt the sealant.

Always use ZFX. ZFX accelerates curing. Sealants bond to your paint. Always give sealants enough time to cure before buffing. Even with ZFX allow for at least 1/2 hour curing time - 24hr w/o ZFX. 3 coats with QD, clay and wash in 4.5 hours doesn't sound like enough curing time.

Zaino lasts about 6 months. Adding layers improves shine and depth. So its up to you to figure out the benefit vs. effort curve.

how do you apply Zaino?

My car is sapphire black. I have some swirl marks. Can you apply it without a machine, or do it by hand?

You can apply Zaino by hand but it will not really remove swirls. Mulitple layers of Zaino will hide them

If you wash with Zaino soap, put Z6, or even better Z8 on afte the wash. Maybe once a month, if you're bored, add another layer of Z2. Z2+ZFX is always better, but once you have that base layer you can do a few Z2 only layers, just not more than one per day.
If you clay or polish, you have to start over.

Congrats on being a Z-convert.

1. You should be OK if you only used water. Just make sure you don't use detergents such as Dawn which will strip your Zaino back off. Z7 is what I use for a wash.

2. You should not need more layers each month unless the environment is really, really, harsh -- it lasts a long time, especially compared to wax. My experience is that additional layers of Z2 are more likely when you want to apply them... Watch the beading of water on your car... when it starts to not be as good as you remember, or you just want to apply another layer or two for added depth to the look, do it. If you do any paint correction with clay, ZPC, or a more heavy-duty technique, you need to reapply Z2 to those areas at a minimum.

My E93 is garaged and covered after the wash/dry ritual when not on the road, and it can go months without new applications -- most people wouldn't know the difference. I tend to add a couple layers every 3-4 months or when the urge strikes me -- it isn't though because I need to. I guess it's a bit therapeutic for me. A couple weekends ago I decided to do some detailing work, stripped the polish off with Dawn, clayed, fixed a few other imperfections on several panels, then did the Z5+ZFX/Z6/Z5+ZFX/Z6/Z2 regime. That transformation is always amazing. This past Saturday, it got another Z2+ZFX/Z6/Z2+ZFX/Z6/ZCS for good measure, as I love the added depth on my Monaco Blue. The exterior is probably good-to-go for the summer or beyond, only needing to do some interior Z10 leather treatment every few weeks. I'll bet though something will strike me to add another layer or two before then.

My Lexus RX400h is also garaged most of the time, is a light grey metallic color (bamboo), but isn't pampered as much as my Bimmer and as such needs it's Z2 application on a more regular basis -- every 4 months or so to keep the water beading the way the way I expect it to. It's a much lighter color than my E93, so I only apply a single Z2 layer when I think it's needed. Over the years, I've found I can't tell a significant difference building up multiple layers on most lighter paint colors, as I can with darker colors, so I no longer go to that effort as I once did.

Thanks guys for all the replies!

I guess I didn't give Z2+ZFX enough time to cure before buffing..(15~20 min for the first two layers and 30 min for the last layer)

Hmm...I will put another two layers this weekend if my knees feel better!
Zaino is so easy to apply but still hurt my knees....

Since I am going put just two more layers...
If I only use 0.5 once of Z2 how much ZFX do I need to add in?

4 or 5 drops.
Z6 and Z8 after washes will really keep up the protection and help with the shine.

So "Within" 2 once of Z2, you need 4 or 5 drops of ZFX?

Yes! In order to layer another coat instead of waiting 12 hours

While it makes me feel like an old man, when I found this solution (I have the HRS-RED) a year ago, I no longer have hurt knees when applying multiple layers of polish to the sides and lower parts of my rides. Do the hood, top and trunk lid, and glide around the rest.

Here it is straight from the Zaino web site:

Pour one to two ounces of Show Car Polish into a 2 ounce mixing bottle. For each ounce of polish, add 4-5 drops of ZFX™ (no more than 10 drops for two full ounces), screw the cap back on, and shake vigorously for 60 to 90 seconds.

I applied Z-6 every time I washed my car until I tried Z-8. Now I'm hooked to Z-8. My wife noticed the difference.

Depends on the color. In light colors you can't really tell.

ZFX is an additive that speeds up the curing process. It has does nothing in terms of looks of the Zaino. It is an aid to do multiple coats instead of waiting for 12 hours.
