So does the difference in stagger not make any difference in rolling diameter?

I see a lot of popular working tire sizes, but does it matter if you're doing 9.5/11 vs 9/11 vs 9/10 etc etc?

tire rolling diameter matters, stagger on wheels does not. just tire width and ratio front to back. different size wheels just will affect how much stretch you have.

How come 225/245 is not recommended in 18s chart but it comes standard on the M235i xdrive :/?? Did BMW changes their tire size allowance?

Different car models have different aspect ratios, too. Many tires are available in only some aspect ratios.

For instance, they changed the tire size from E9x to F3x via an aspect ratio change.

ugh -- tire rack's recommendation for a 335xi had...

(from thread here, but since this thread seems to be the authority, asking here...)

I have a 2010 335xi w sport package / staggered. I've been getting my tires from tirerack, and have been using the sumitomo HTR III for my summer rims, which was (and still is) one of the recommended staggered combos for my specific vehicle.

My fronts are shot due to a bad alignment, and was going to replace. The rears are in great shape, and have 7/32 tread remaining.

The difference in revs per mile if I replace only the fronts, would be .79% (i.e. less than the magic "1%".).

BUT -- I just noticed that on the specs for these tires, it seems to have the largest difference in revs per mile than all the other ones:

front: 826 / mile
rear: 832 / mile

... which right off the bat, is a difference of .8% ... i.e. almost 1% right there!!!!!!

So, if I combine me reduced tread on the rears, with new fronts, the difference is 1.59%, which is well above the magic 1%.

I have an appt later today to put the new fronts on. Should I cancel?

Ugh, I've been doing this for years, car is @ 140k. Wonder what damage I've done.

I understand that different tires in a staggered setup will be fairly impossible to be 100% perfectly the same revs / mile. The OEM tires seem to have a difference of 3 revs/mile, as do most of the other recommended staggered combos. But the sumitomo htr III has a difference of 6 revs right off the bat, which puts us right up against the 1% number even when all are brand new.

What gives? Am I understanding things incorrectly? Looking for recommendations, thx.

Running 255/30/19 on front and 265/30/19 on rear.

Front are 19x9 +35
Rear are 19x10 +38

According to chart it is within 0.8% of factory wheels. Drives fine. Noticeable wheel gap in front wells due to stock suspension. Is the 0.8% difference that significant?

Any info on 20in wheels?

Looking at getting HRE FF01 but have no idea on width and tires I should get. Can I do 20x9 and 20x10 or do I need to be smaller? What tire set up? Sorry just new to all this.

So I got a bubble in the sidewall of one of my tire, and of course, they are no longer made. So I have been hunting for a used replacement...

A set of 245/35ZR19s of the same tire just came up for sale. I need to know if I am within the 1% tolerance now that my rears have worn down a little...

Current setup when new:
235/35ZR19 - Front - 25.5" diameter - 815 revs/mi
265/30ZR19 - Rear - 25.3" diameter - 821 revs/mi

Replacement tires for the front;
245/35ZR19 - Front - 25.8" diameter - 805 revs/mi

Obviously the current tires have been worn down a little, do I need to get their tread depth in order to know if the replacements will be within 1%? The replacements have 10/32 tread depth. How could you even figure out if enough tread has been worn off the rears so that it falls within the 1% tolerance.

Edit: I realized my logic was wrong. As the rears wear, they get more revs per mile, therefore increasing the difference between the potential replacement tires.... sigh

Go to the Wheels and Tires subform and right at the top are tools for comparing tire sizes, offsets, etc.
