Auto-Lock on DS door not working...blown fuse? Help?

Hi all,

My DS doorlock has stopped working....all the other doors are working and it seems that my gas tank door and trunk are working....would this be due to a blown fuse?

Based on my research, I think it is....when I opened the compartment, I am not comfortable playing with it, as I don't want to screw anything up....I don't have warranty anymore - so the dealer is a last resort.

If you've done this before, can you help?

Much appreciated!

Did a quick search and this looked to be the most clear answer.

FUSE 57 is blown. Most likely, excessive amperage drawn by the right front door lock actuator and the fuel door. It is rarely caused by the rear doors but a good possibility. Fuse 56 is the other fuse and if blown, only the drivers side is affected. This is a known issue and there is an S.I.B. to correct this. ( 51 19 07 ).

BMW states that this draw is commonly attributed to silicone contamination of the latch. Never spray any silicone products into the latch, as this will lead to premature failure.

Just had a very similar problem with all my door locks. I can manually unlock the driver side and the trunk, but even if I pull the lever for the passenger side door or the rear doors, none of them worked.

Dealer replaced both front door locks and that fixed my problem. The doors are all under the same circuit, and it seems that my front locks were broken, which shorted the fuse, AND because they are in the same system, the rear doors won't lock/unlock.

Parts were cheap, about $250~, but labour was over $500. That is for both front doors.

Your problem seems to be driver side only, and if your car is still under warrenty, best take it to the dealer.

pulled the fuses this morning and none of them "look" blown....I'm going to go buy a new pack, replace and see if that works.

hopefully it's a quick fix

Followup to my door lock troubles:
Service replaced all of the door lock actuators. Haven't had an issue since then.
Btw the fuse that I had bought and installed myself service replaced it with their own BMW warrantied fuse. LOL
Nevertheless I have a pack of fuses for backup in case it blows again.

On top of that my drivers side window switch broke last week and I couldn't roll up the window. Had to fiddle with the switch for a while until I got the glass rolled up completely. Got that switched replaced. Then I found out afterwards that service replaced the window motor as well when they heard a ratcheting sound while testing the switch. Thank God for warranties.

Must be your door actuator now.

You are probably looking at $400 for the repair at the dealer, since my repair is about close to $800 for both sides.

I don't think so, because both my front door locks completely crapped out, so the rear doors doesn't even work. That's what I've been told about my repair. Then again, I'm not a tech, it's just based on what happened on my car.

Since it's only your driver side door that's not working, they will probably just replace the driver side only.
