Exhaust or Intake - Mild Tune
I searched but my findings were inconclusive...
I plan to eventually do both an exhaust and intake but for the time being its one or the other. The intake im looking at has a claimed gain of 27hp/34tq The exhaust claimed gain 12hp/8tq Based on face value the decision is easy (intake) but I dont trust those numbers because the details of the conditions the runs were performed in were not disclosed. I've read/heard many different opinions on the benefit/non-benefit from an intake on a stock or mildly tuned 335i. Price not being a factior in a real world driving situation would the intake or exhaust provide more gains with a mild tune like the SSTT? |

what's your budget? I'd go for the quads merely because of the appeal of four tail pipes and the raw sound but if money is of concern, get the intakes then the exhaust...

Also, if you combine mods, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts
I haven't really seen a thread that documents this theory yet though. Any takers? |

Since my experience is all with the SSTT of course I can say that the SSTT and the intake make the biggest bang for the buck improvement. Then a very nice cat back system will get you a nice additional gain! Of course the discount pricing on both makes the the two less then $900 shipped to your door!

But thanks for the tip, I'll go with the intake first then. |

I'd go for the exhaust for the sound. At the end of the day you will probably get a whole lot more enjoyment out of a good sounding exhaust than you would from the 10whp or whatever difference that you can't actually feel anyway. Just my 2 cents.

You also have to take into consideration that a dual cone intake will also produce a pleasing sound, turbos spooling and diverter value release |

My point was simply to get whatever will give you more driving pleasure, not what will give you 5whp more. Personally, I love both exhaust and induction noise, but if I had to choose one or the other then I would probably go with an exhaust first.
