Where do you put your Ipod?
This has been bugging me since I purchased my E90. My Ipod is kept in a case to protect it and was normaly placed under the arm rest and left to rattle around. Anyway as I cannot get a Nokia E66 phone cradle I thought I would make use of the bluetooth blanking plate. 15 minute job with black foam & double sided tape. Now my Ipod is secure and awaiting a USB interface retrofit.
What do you think? |

Works for me. I just stick my iPod in the cup holder. I've seen iPod holders that are on the underneath side of the lid. I'm trying to figure a way to keep my logbook there.

Mine came with this and holds the ipod perfectly under the lid. I assume this only comes with the USB option?

If you don't have the USB connection, then you need access to your ipod to control it.
I bought a belkin 'sports jacket' for mine. Basically just a black rubber case that stops it getting scratched: This also makes it 'non slip' so I can lie my ipod on top of the ashtray when driving and easily get to it to change tracks etc. It will not slip off, no matter how hard you corner. |

Note above - whilst not ideal, even if you don't have USB you don't have to be able to see your iphone. I use a liquid Aux (which comes with a remote with play/pause/next/last track/shuffle) and put the iphone in a brodit holder that I screwed to the blank slot-in bluetooth adapter in my armrest. This charges the phone, provides tunes through Aux In and allows full control of the phone through bluetooth. The real value of this set up is that there is no faffing when you get in, just open up the arm rest, slot in the phone and go (before I got the brodit the wires were fiddly and as above there was nowhere to put the phone). I did look at creating a DIY foam based solution (as I like doing that sort of thing), but this would not address the "slot in" aspects which I eventually figured out would be easiest to achieve by "bast*rdising" an existing slot in iphone adaper and mating it to the car somehow - turned out the brodit one needed no modification at all. I used the self tappers that come with the brodit to screw into the bluetooth adapter, making sure to cover the underside with foam to prevent damage to the car (the blank adapter itself is (I assume) only worth a few ££ so didn't mind screwing into that).
...showing unclipped adpater with foam underneath protecting car... I originally stuck the remote behind the idrive, but I've moved this now and have put it behind the right hand steering wheel spoke (so its invisible, but easily usable with two forefingers on right hand). When using the remote, the iphone will stay within a playlist when shuffling or just moving through tracks - once all of a playlist has been played it will start to access any tracks on the iphone. I also went the Brodit and Kensington plugged in under the armrest route though as I have a bluetooth cradle for the phone under the armrest had to put it next to the gearstick. Remote is now redundant though the velcro fastening wasn't really long enough anyway for the chunkier M sport steering wheel. Easily removed with no holes anywhere.

ajd, Does the little insert in your liquidaux steering wheel controller pop out by design, or have you taken it apart? It looks better the way you have it and not strapped to the steering wheel...

i have to say i really like the idea of this, and it's doesn't have the retro fit look either. well done guys. Really thinking about the idea for mine. Can I ask where you got the Liquid AUX kit from?

If you've got the usb option, why bother putting your Ipod in the car? In fact why bother having an ipod at all?
The 6FL kit only uses the ipod simply as a dumb 'memory device' so you have no ipod features, only those provided by the car. Just buy a cheap memory stick and chuck all your tunes on that, then leave it permanently in the car? Easy. |
