How I made my boost gauges show up on the IDRIVE screen. Jb4 or MHD

Here is a quick diy video on how you can put your mostly unless idrive screen to good use and have your gauges show up there, using the information provided by the JB4, via JB4 mobile app, or MHD.

I just looked on XLink site they have a wireless smartphone mirroring interface. Why didn't you choose to use that?

nice setup, but I have to agree its way too much stuff going on for me to try, I have a decent mount using the ash try for my 7" tablet.

BTW have you found a way for it to be a completely hands free solution.

IE keep your tablet charged and connected to jb4 without killing the battery when the car is off and have it automatically connect?

the issue I have had with mine is that if you leave the USB connected it will kill the battery of the tablet, even if the jb4 mobile app is up it will kill the battery of the tablet as well, I have also found an auto sleep app that backgrounds the tablet when power it cut off and I wired the charger to acc of the car.

The only way I could think is a relay to cut connection of the usb otg when the car is shut off, as well as some software to automatically close the jb4 app. the jb4 app has a setting to background it but it really doesn't do much as anytime I do not close the jb4 app manually it kills the tablets battery.

Install tasker. some simple scripts can be setup to switch the tablet off when you turn the car (power) off, and then when tablet turns on, auto launch jb4 mobile.

If you have a nexus 7 tablet, you can also set a command in fastboot to have the tablet automatically turn on when power is sensed.

if you buy me a beer I will help you. If you have everything including the JB4 cable in the glovebox, we can do it in about an hour or so.

Its actually pretty simple, you install the Xcarlink system, then RCA cables from the mini android pc into the Xcarlink module, 12V to usb converter, and plug the JB$ data cable into the android PC. thats it.

It is completely hands free. In the end of the video you can see that. It powers on whe you open your doors, and once it boots, tasker launches the JB4 mobile app that automatically connects to the JB4 itself.

expensive? P3 vent gauge is $400 and can do one thing at a time.
The xcarlink system was $253 shipped from UK (153 british pounds)
the measy U2c android PC was 34$
12V to usb adapter was $2
Thats $289 total

And now I can install a back up camera, GPS car tracking, my JB4 logs get automatically uploaded to my desktop every day, run waze, and a bunch of other cool stuff. its a bargain. and if you know what you are doing, 2 people can install in in about an hour.

because I wanted something that works without any intervention from me. meaning no sitting there and connecting anything and wanted to keep it simple.
No cables sticking out, not using my phone battery ETC. This just always works, without my intervention.

no it cannot, you need a device that can do video out, charge and have a way to get data in. the only way it would work is if you do JB4 through bluethooth, and do screen miroring, and just charge it throught the cable.

Awesome DIY! Would definitely try this if I had idrive.

Its been interesting to see the shift in objectives now that the cars are getting cheaper and cheaper. Originally these projects were about being as clean and seamless as you could be, to your end. Now everybody just wants it easy and cheap. Lol

I can't really recall the last time something difficult and expensive was actually "a thing" around here. If anything, this place is notorious for being cheapskate city; just look at all the low ballers in the classified section

I haven't added the JB4 interface yet (I plan to when I go Android next month), but have the same setup I posted about last year:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1143997

I used a different AirPlay solution though.

Hi, great job..

I did the same setup, but the screen is always black, I am able only to change input channel, but all of them is just black screen.

I read that if you have a jb4 then the interface won't work, since it interferes with the can bus, which is used by the jb4 all the time !

Anyone faced the smae problem, any suggestions…

I tapped in to the CIC without the xcarlink, powers triggered by fuse box. Viewed thru "TV" option that is in euro spec CIC that I enabled via coding
I get in the car press the engine start button and MHD gauges are there with the new auto logging on start up option MHD released. I don't press anything else. If I want to tinker around in MHD I keep a mini mouse in the glove box.

I likely can't post link here but I detailed it in another forum that has spool in the name.

Vanhabib, do you have an android PC running the JB4 mobile app?

I had it with the JB4 the only adverse effect was that maybe once a week I would get a check engine light but there were no codes when scanned. It would go away the moment you turn the car off and on. No limp mode or anything else like that. so it wasnt a big deal.

R.G. I had MHD autostart and go into logging via tasker and i complained to MHD about an option to go into guages on startup. By the time they added that option I got a diffrent setup with a touchscreen.
