hello e90 members.

I got my 2013 335is this past Monday and I noticed two nails on the tires already! The car has less than 300 miles...!! fkasdlfkhasdf!
Both in front drivers side and passenger side!! aslkdfhasldkf!!!
Talk about bad luck...

Now because they are RFT tires... I'm not sure it they can be patchable.
Does anybody know if RFT tires can be patched? I took it to the dealer yesterday and basically they said "tough luck"... I will have to replace them...

Can Discount tires or Belletire patch this?

The thread says it is patchable... but depends on location...
The nail on the passenger side tire is directly in the center and the drivers side is located closer to the edge... it almost looks like its creating a bubble...

I would take some pictures to show you but my car is at the dealer getting some tinting done and I should have it later today...

lol, within the thread, the guy says he is extremely pissed because he has less than 3400 miles and got a nail... imagine 2 nails with less than 300 miles...

Thanks! I think I just need to stop by discount tire or belle tire to see what they will say... it will suck really bad if I need to replace the tires at 300 miles... =X

Which is true of go-flat tires also; too close to or in the sidewall and they're to be replaced not patched.

The thing with RFTs is that driving while flat apparently causes sidewall damage and there seems to be no info on how long or how far before it's a write-off.

Plugs vs patches - the only true tire repair is an internally applied mushroom patch. Plugs are fine to get you to a shop that can pull the tire off the wheel and perform the repair. I wouldn't consider plugs as anything but temporary; things can get a bit exciting if a tire spits out a plug at 80mph.

My sisters 2011 X5 had a nail the first few weeks of delivery and the dealer patched it. 48k miles later no problem and im surprised the tires lasted that long.

When driving, stay away from the edge of the road or gutters. I feel like all nails on the road end up there.

I just got a nail in my sidewall last night Local tire shop would have patched it but you can't when it's in the sidewall. Now I have to find a replacement.

Every time I get tire warranties, I never have an issue. When I don't get tire warranties, I get a nail in the sidewall.

Lol same for me... That's how warranties usually work for me.

After taking my car into belle tire, they said one of the nail can be patched but the other one can't be plugged or patched because its too close to the wall... It looks like we are in the same boat. Tirerack.com.
I wonder if we can get buy 1 get half off. Lol

I can't wait to change to non RFTs so I don't have to worry about $380+ tires. Costco is really good for this, they have good prices + warranty + lifetime free rotation (if directional or square setup).

Note to self : ALWAYS get the road hazard warranty....

RFT is much more expensive plus it's heavier...
I agree... I can't wait 'till I change them out to regular tires.

I got a local shop to patch mine, the puncture was right in the middle and the tire is 1 month old.

No problems since then.

The theory of the RFT is that when you get a flat, you are supposed to drive on it to the dealership and/or tire shop and get it replaced.

You cannot re-use an RFT that has been driven over a certain mph, duration, and 0 psi. I was lucky I had 15 psi when I drove it home 5 km away. Filled it up to 41 psi and it was down to 30 psi the next day

If you check the inside of the tire and there are white score marks by the sidewall, the tires are toast.
