29d0 Misfire & 2A87 Vanos
Hi Guys,
So was driving a bit rough today cause I was late to work. I mean not too rough but hitting 3000 and 3500 RPM. As I got to the parking lot, Check engine came on and i pulled these two codes.. 29DO Misfire Cylinder 4 & 2A87 Exhaust Vanos. Car has 101k miles 2009 328xi A bit of a backstory to see if anyone has experienced the same problem. 1.) about 20,000 miles ago when I hit 80kmiles, i got codes 2A87 Exhaust Vanos and 2A82 Vanos Intake. I did the DIYs, cleaned both and then swapped them. Didn't want to throw down $150 a piece so i figure I try this first. Problem went away and my idling resumed properly. 2.) In Feb 2018, about 10k miles ago when I hit 93kmiles, I got codes 29D2 Misfire in 6th cylinder and then 2A87 Exhaust Vanos again... - I changed all the spark plugs but only changed the ignition coil on the 6th cylinder. I didn't do anything to the vanos... Erased the codes and was good. 3.) passed NJ inspection about a month ago.. I checked with my OBD computer right before and was good... no codes thankfully so the 2A87 went away Then today.. got the damn 2A87 Exhaust Vanos with a misfire on Cylinder 4. Obviously it's not the plugs cause I just changed them all. So i'm wondering should I change all the ignition coils or go after changing the exhaust Vanos soloniod? Kind of weird that I have gotten two misfires in different cylinders and simultaneously gotten the repeat 2A87 again... Anyone experience something similar in those stages as I mentioned above and did they just decide to do all the ignition coils and leave the Vanos alone? thanks, JP |
