Salt Truck Damage

Driving down Lake Shore Blvd E. this morning. I passed a salt truck. The guy was spraying salt like a MF. Chipped my whole front end. Could not turn around and get info but it was definitely under City contract.

Anyone have luck with claims against this?

If you give them the exact time and route, the City will know which truck it is as the majority of its fleet should be monitored with on vehicle GPS units.

Its a timely process to get the claim through... If you get it in now (if approved), you'll have it by end of spring.

Are you sure it actually chipped the paint? I have this happen to me all the time downtown on the Gardiner and Lake Shore and I don't think I have ever had actual damage - the rocks they are spraying are pretty small. Salt can look like paint damage but if you wash off the front end carefully you may find it's ok underneath.

LOL, I would love to see the look on the face of whomever you file that complaint with.

"Umm your salt truck which is salting the roads for the safety of the drivers chipped the paint on my BMW. Can you pay for the costs of respraying my front end?!"

Dude, good luck with that. They are just going to tell you that you should of kept your distance. Welcome to Canada!

chances of the city paying for it are almost none.

I passed those trucks all the time on the way to work and I have not see any damage in my car.

Im not sure if those trucks can adjust the speed/force of the spray , that would explain your damage...

He could have "passed" the truck as it was heading in the other direction...that still implies that he "passed" it.

I've had this happen to me too. Sounded like frickin' gravel hitting my car. Pulled over, got out and checked. Didn't see anything to cry about so I continued.

Good luck!

My experience with city claims:

Few years ago in Toronto, I hit a massive pot that was new in my area at night... the pot hole remained for a good 2 weeks. I had pictures of it, the damage it caused and a bill for the control arms and tire I replaced. City came back and said no to my claim... said they repaired the pot hole in a reasonable amount of time.

A co-worker nailed construction debris in Oakville a few months ago busted a fender and rim. He called the city, who forwarded him around a few times. They pretty much wrote him a cheque while he was on the phone with the right guy.

I was going in the opposite direction. the salt did do damage and has left 2 gauges in the paint. I understand the purpose of the salt truck but I do not think it is normal to have that type of damage. pics will posted in the morning.

That's why I have had clear bras installed on the whole front end for every car I have ever owned.
