This is hilarious!! Every now and then I get out and lock the doors to my car before my girlfriend gets out by accident. I'll be looking around wondering where she is and then I look back at the car and she'll be knocking on the windows trying to get my attention..

Oooops!!!

Dont know what was the reason for this. Give it a try.
Yep ... this works ...

This works too

Didn't know that the alarm goes off when the car is locked and you open the bonnet (hood). How cool is that!

[QUOTE=ScheerSpeed]-

-having the clutch depressed at a stop is actually burning up the clutch (clutch plates never release from each other completely, there is always a bit of friction between them)

i dont think this is true. im not saying for sure because im not an expert... can someone verify this either way??

it is true, try this: rev up you engine without depressing the clutch, see how the RPM's fall after you rev it (3500 is a good rev to try this)

then do the same thing, but with the clutch depressed, and you will see that the RPM's will fall much faster, and it will take them longer to get to where you revved it w/o the clutch being depressed.

thus it can be concluded that the RPM's fall faster and climb slower with the clutch depressed because there is more resistance on the engine (i.e. clutch friction)

No. You will not burn out your clutch with the pedal fully depressed. 20 years of driving and I have never had to replace a clutch. If anything, the concern is for the release bearing which some say will wear out early, but I have never had to replace one of those either.

Not true. If you push the unlock button on the dash twice, you can then pull the inside handle and open the door.
My father accidentally locked my mother inside his X5 while he wasn't paying attention. He went in the store, my mother was stuck in the car, unable to get out. Dad left his cell phone in the car, so my mom was just chillin' for like 15 minutes before my dad realized she wasn't in the store. So, YES, if you lock someone in the car with the key fob, they are stuck.

DSC = Dynamic Stability Control --> Works to keep your car stable

When DSC is On (Default - No light in dashboard), DTC is also on, as it's a part of DSC. DSC uses many sensors and very computing to keep your car on the indented trajectory:
  • ABS
  • DTC
  • Throttle Control
  • Yaw Angle
  • Steering wheel angle
  • CBC (Cornering Brake Control)

I tested it Driving on a snow covered wide space (little bit icy under snow), and did a quick turn @ 45Km/h, DCS intervened and cut throttle (even as I was pressing harder) braked some of the wheels and kept the car going where I was pointing it.

In other words, when DSC kicks in, you are no longer really controlling all the inputs besides steering or if you decide to completely get off throttle and slam brakes.

DSC is all about Stability!

**************************************************

DTC = Dynamic Traction Control --> Work to keep your drivewheels from spinning out of control

When you do a quick press of the DTC button; (DTC light in dashboard),the car is basically warning you that only DTC is on. DTC works manly with ABS to keep your drive wheels from spinning out of control.

I tested it Driving on that same snow covered wide space (little bit icy under snow), and did a quick turn @ 45Km/h, The rear of the car went out and I had to counter steer to bring it back where I wanted & DSC kicked in as I gave more gas and kept the wheels spinning while limiting spin.

In other words, when DTC kicks you are controlling all the inputs, it will not factor in anything for you besides limiting drive wheels spin (not an LSD) to give you a certain level of TRACTION.

What that made me realize is that it's nice to be a good driver and control you car, but If I did the same thing on the road with only DTC on... the ass of the car would have either, clipped a curb, guard rail or a car next to me.

******************************************
LAST:
If you keep the button pressed for a little longer ... then you are on your own with the Beast.

Again I tried my little test with all of it off. I can tell you that, with the amount of torque in the car the wheels in snow or ice (even with very little throttle), the engine revved and the wheels spun and spun and spun ... no Traction.

I would recommend this mode either on track or on nice warm day at limited speeds.
Isn't that what he said?

The volume knob (Next to the CD slot) is also a mute button, at least for iDrive L7 system.

Now this is science at its finest. Another conclusion from this experiment is that Bin Laden is sharing the honeymoon suit at the Ritz in Laguna this winter with Elvis.

So as I was showing the people who bought my car all the features I tried to show them that you couldn't lock the key in trunk I proceeded to actually lock it in. Embarrassment ensued. WTF, shouldn't that work?

Push it once and (on iDrive) a symbol of a speaker with a slash through it appears on the bottom of the display about a third of the way from the left. Push it again and the symbol is replaced with the sound.

If you have I'drive it's all very clear ....

When you push the DTC button once the following message comes up:

"DTC activated, DSC+ restricted"

Press and hold and it says:

"DSC+ de-activated"

I have tested the double press of the unlock button if you are locked in ... doesn't work ... there is no way out apart from smashing a window.

My contribution(s) ...

If you have i'drive you just need to press the knob down twice from the menu screen to turn it off ...

Traffic announcements (TP) can be cancelled by pressing the 'up or down' button on the steering wheel.

When you are in the phone list screens (eg A to Z) the steering wheel up and down buttons let you scroll through the entries and the phone button dials them.

BMW has had that for a long time. I locked my then-partner in the car once, kidding around, and that was on a 1992 525i.
