I see this as a good excuse to get a new gadget phone. I don't use the internet on the phone often but it's nice to have it to check my email in a pinch. I do text occasionally. Seems like voice clarity is still a problem in the US, when I was in Europe using the same phone sound quality was definitely better. Also strange is that sometimes I might not get a text, or when I send a text, it might not go through??

I am looking for a durable phone with good sound quality, bluetooth, small, and a good battery life. What does the new Bluetooth 2.0 do that the previous version couldn't do? Should I be looking for a phone with Bluetooth 2.0? I like the iPhone with the touch screen but hear it's been having quality problems . . . not durable (it cracks easily) and some the functions aren't working as it's supposed to, and besides the current phone is not even using 3G for wireless data. When will the new 3G iPhone come out?

I hear the Blackjack by Samsung is a good alternative. Any other ideas or recommendations?
Depends on your carrier. Neither iPhone or Blackberry is 3G. If you are AT&T, give the Blackjack II a look.

Another thing to consider is that with a BB 8800 you will not be able to access your phonebook on your BT car system. Phonecalls work fine but you will not be able to see the phonebook or any call logs...Not sure about the Curve...
my 8820 works flawlessly with the bimmer BT.

Right now, my unlokced BlackBerry 8310 is my main phone, but I also just bought a Q9h unlocked, an unlocked BlackJack II, and a 4gig iPhone. I suggest the BlackBerry. The 8310 and the 8320 I had before it are excellent. Every feature they offer works well. Every single feature.

The Q9h and the BlackJack II are also excellent. I prefer the look, feel, and operation of the BlackJack II. It has an easier to use keyboard than the Q9h and I appreciate that a great deal. The Motorola is well reviewed for having impressive battery life and the best speakerphone of any Windows Mobile device...ever. It is hard for me to choose one of them over the other so I just got both.

I do NOT suggest the iPhone if you enjoy messaging or phone calls. I don't even suggest the iPhone for music. Every phone I just mentioned, EXCEPT for the iPhone can handle stereo bluetooth. The iPhone is too quiet in handset mode and the speakerphone is just pointless. Typing messages is quite tedious and requires too many corrections.

However, if you like browsing the web a whole lot then it is hard to beat the iPhone.

Blackberry, for sure. Although if you're on Verizon, they disable the GPS feature and instead force you to pay up $10 a month for their horrible VZNavigator. Still, can't beat the functionality, ease of use, and lack of problems with a Blackberry.

Speaking of rugged, I've probably knocked this thing into desks and other tabletops at least 50 times now and there's not one scratch on the chrome-plated side of the phone. It's absolutely great.

The battery life is probably Blackberry's forte. Their ultra-capacity batteries last me about 3-4 days on one charge, and that's including talking primarily through a BT headset.

I have to go update to version 1.1.3 for my phone... I heard that it has some kind of GPS now. Now all it needs is copy and paste, and flash. So, no, its not perfect by any means, but its still the best phone that I have ever used for my needs.
I just updated the firmware. GPS locator uses cell tower triangulation to get your position. It's relatively accurate.

I literally had hundreds of phones in one room for testing. The blackberry's are nice, but MY preference is the Iphone (which, as I said before, I didn't like initially).

I don't know what problems you have with making phone calls on an iphone, but I have had way less dropped calls since I have switched over to this phone compared to any of my previous phones with cingular/at&t. I have no use for stereo bluetooth so that's not an issue for me. I either put the phone to my ear, which always sounds clear, or use the speakerphone sometimes. The really low speaker volume was also improved in a previous update so i'm not sure when you tried it. As far as music goes, this phone is set up just like an ipod so I don't see how you don't recommend it for music.

I just updated it last night as well, and the GPS feature is a nice addition. I would like to see real GPS instead, but this a step in the right direction.

how many minutes a month do you talk? I can get one day, tops, from my 8820. But I'm using over 3000 min/month.

Yeah, as a college student, I don't need to talk that often haha, but I probably use a total of about 1200-1500 minutes a month? Mostly Verizon to Verizon.
