Hawaii Inspections

I just arrived in Hawaii on Sunday 15 May and I need to get my car inspected. I have 20% tint on my windows and I have heard that will fail inspection. Does anyone know or go to a shop that will pass the car with the window tint? Any other tips to help get settled in will help.

Thanks

Chad

tbh illegal tint is prolly the #1 thing you'll get pulled over for here. I have several friends in HPD and they all agree dark tint is one of the first reasons they'll pull a car over. I've had way too many problems with one of my previous cars (also with 20%) in the past getting pulled over for exactly this... so my friendly advice would be to just have it removed and redone. They can ticket you $287 per window in your car that is in violation so it can be a very expensive lesson to learn the hard way.

Life has gotten much easier for me since I've complied with reconstruction laws with this car.

Thanks I guess I will strip it off and just have the inspection done on base. I dont want to be hassled just for window tint and especially at that price.

every time i ever need to have my motorcyles inspected, i had to put them completly back to stock. i had heard of places that would pass you without even looking at the car, but it was a hassle because i wasnt a local boy. anyway, +2 to the above.

also, pretty cool they do the inspections on base there, when i was on Pearl a couple years ago they didnt offer it.

Also if you're worried about the bright Hawaiian sun getting to you, they just legalized front windshield tint here a year ago. It has to meter to 70ish percent so basicallly that limits you to clear UV tint only but it makes a big difference in the amount of heat that gets into the car. I haven't had it done on my e92 since I only drive that car once a week at most, but it made a huge difference on my Honda Fit. I had Air Blue installed at T&T. I also had my e92 metered there to check if it would pass with the tint installed and it was fine so it is an option.

I will have to check T&T out once I get things settled. I am still living in a hotel with my wife and two dogs so the window tint is not that important. Hopefully we can get into a house in the next week or so.

If you decide to go with T&T make sure you get an online quote first at their website: http://tnttinting.com -- the online quote they give you is much cheaper than what they will give you as a walk-in, or phone-in.

I'm sure others can recommend alternatives. I went with them because they are the only dealers on Oahu for Formula One.

No prob. It's nice that they made that concession finally. At $180 for just the front windshield tho, it's pretty pricey.

Pulled the old tint of and had T&T retint my car and the wifes car. They did a good job on both cars and finally got the inspections done. Really hated having to put holes in the front bumper for the license plate holder.

I got one of these for my car. I refuse to drill the front bumper of my new E90 M Sport.
