You should be happy with the Cobb if you go that way. If you do anything try to get a base line dyno run of the stock car before any mods to see how much anything else you buy is helping the car.

Its always good info to share on the net.

Here's my 2 cents -- was torn between the jb4, procede & cobb (originally cobb was last in my mind). thought about it and realized since i'm keeping the long term & wanted the tune that not only would give me the most, but also had the least potential for damage.

after an unhealthy amount of time on the forums, decided that cobb was going to give me that perfect balance of performance & protection. was able to buy a used AP last nite, ran home & installed the AP manager on my mac, and ran out to my car. Downloading the stock map on to the AP took probably 15 minutes, then another 5 for switching the car onto the Stage 1 Aggressive map.... NIGHT & DAY difference. The car flew thru the gears and was just crushin 95 like it was nothing (was about 11 pm, no1 was on the road so a good opportunity to open it up)..... Got home & decided that Aggressive was a little much for daily driving so I downloaded the Sport map. Went back out to the car, took less than 5 mins to switch. Car still pulled much harder than the stock map on my way to work, but wasn't as brutal as the Aggressive map (probably perfect balance for daily driving).

Cobb's probably has the best r&d out of all the tunes offered (look at what they did w/ the GTR) and probably the easiest to use system. Like other people have said, you dont have to ever get under the hood -- just plug right into your OBD port. I love my Cobb and am already shopping around for Stage 2 mods (intercooler & downpipes are must). To top it off, they're supposed to be releasing the v4 maps real soon (they're in the beta-testing phase right now)

IF you can find one used (i got mine $650 cash money), GO FOR IT --- While the other options are great (jb4 & procede), the COBB actually tunes the car, remapping your throttle, air-2-fuel ratio, etc etc

Basically you have 75% of the market in your favor. I would get the n54 just so that I can tune it more easily.

Are there any risks if i buy used ? I've never been a fan of buying used so i want to make sure

I called cobb & asked the exact same question. they explained to me that i should test the AP before handing the money over. when you plug it in, you should get a very basic menu (if the cobb is paired to a car, the "install" screen wont be an available option). i met with the guy i was buying the AP from in person and asked him to test it out before i handed over the moneys. he was real chill, it checked out & we talked for a while. once i got home, i updated the AP, cleared all the maps he had (he had more mods on his car then i did) and then redownloaded 3 maps (all stock throttle) -- Sport, Aggressive & Valet.

Here's a video cobb did for installing the AP on bmw's. it'll show the "install" screen i'm talking about

i wouldnt recommend buying more wear/tear parts (wheel spacers, custom made intakes, etc) used

Expect it varies by area & the number of sites available (competition). I pay $75 cash & usually do 4 pulls with me driving.

Congrats! I joined the 335is crowd 3 weeks ago. Same options expect no HK stereo. I'm intently reading the stereo sub-forum.
Is a Dinan tune even worth considering, especially considering a leased car? It is way more expensive. A friend with a 335i coupe has a JB4 tune. I think he runs map 2 most of the time? I can get 93 octane no problem.

PS: I drove a new 335i sedan at the BMW PC last week. Boring compared to the 335is. But the 335is is not quite an M3, but close, and probably a better daily driver.

PPS: I'm still playing with tire pressures. I think 39/46 is too high for the rears. I get no traction. I traded a Z4 35i. It ran 36/42 with exactly the same tires and wheel size. It had a lot more stick out of the hole. Thoughts?

I am definitely not going with Dinan considering its a lease. I also test drove the redesigned 335i, 2012 M3 & my 2012 335is. I really liked the 3 camera's on the redesigned 335i as well as the heads up display, but since i had a 2011 335i, the power difference was not much. M3 was a little over my budget, so the 335is was my best option I love this car lol

No on the Dinan way too expensive for what you get....try JB4 or Cobb. The JB4 now has a special 335is Map 6 for 93 octane IS cars, higher boost levels across the board up to 5500rpm then the standard 335i maps..

The run flats are not all that good for traction & you might want to think about Conti DW's or Michelin PSS's. The car will take 265 rears with no problem. Might have missed it so I am not sure what transmission you have but a quick cure is to start in 2nd gear with a 7 DCT & feed in the power don’t slam it to the floor.

If you are on lease stick the RTF in storage so you can put them back on for turn in.

So i've decided to go with Cobb, ordering the unit next week.
In the mean time i went to look at the available maps, but when i click on the maps for bmw (http://www.cobbtuning.com/AccessPORT...s/bmw/bmw-grid) I dont know which ECU ID is for my 2012 335is.. How could i find out ? Sorrry i am new to the whole tuning

Sweet Ride! I bought a 2012 335is out here in Germany after I got back from Afghanistan. Its pretty amazing! I'm planning to pick up a cobb's as well. Tell me how things go!

Got my leased 2012 335is E93 in December. Love everything about it. I just added an AccessPort and that was one reason. Easy on, easy off when needed!

Just fyi, when I first tried to install the Cobb, it said my 335is ROM was unknown. I dumped the ROM and sent it to Cobb and got a fix within a week or so and it installed. I now see they've made two updates since and both are targeted for the 335is and N54. Super quick now.

Moral: upgrade to latest firmware before installing (as directed).
