shortened plate or no plate!

if you want to run a full size plate take the stupid bulky plate bracket off first! i think that looks so out of place!

I have pressed plates. Not German, just standard plates, standard font and colours but pressed. Looks 10x better IMO.
Have went through MOT also with them and they're perfectly fine.
Definitely have to take the front plate holder off and get rid of screws.

Guys for the shortened plates, does anyone have an idea of what the measurements are for it?

I went for 330mm x 111mm for D1 EEG.

instead of 520mm x 111mm

Might be a bit tight if you have 6 digits or even anything bigger than a 1 in with 5 digits....

Hope that last bit makes sense.

Plain plates FTW though in all honesty mine are illegal as they don't have the origin of the plates on them but they have the stamp and the fonts the correct size etc. first thing I bought for the car actually, no issues with MOT thankfully.

I have pressed German plates on mine, I really hate crazy fonts on regular UK plates, but IMO the pressed plates on a German car don't look that out of place. They're not to everyone's taste, but I think they look quite cool

My plates were already illegal before due to the spacing, so I thought I may as well try out the pressed ones this time round. I've always had standard UK plates on my other cars and never had any issues from the police. Even had a speeding fine and been pulled over numerous times in my 10+ years of driving (all the time with the same incorrectly spaced private plate) and it's never been a problem. Once when I was pulled over about 7 years ago the officer told me the plate was illegal, but never said any more about it and I went off on my way.

The only time I have ever had an issue is during MOT time. Some garages just pass it if you show that you actually have the legit plates in the boot, but most have made me swap it for the legal one. That's a 2 second job if you have the plate holders, (which I've also had to get for the pressed plates) as they clip in and out really easily.

I've had my German plates on a couple of months now and obviously police have been right behind me and driven past me on a daily basis, and so far none of them have even given it a second glance. I think generally the police will only make an issue out of it if the font is illegible or it's a tiny plate, or you're trying to make it look like something its's not by altering letters or cleverly placed screw caps, but as long as its clear and easy to make out the reg they don't bother.

If police do make an issue out of it, it's is a £60 fine and having to put the legal plates back on, but I guess it's the risk you take...

Edit:

Admit to being one of the more mature members here, so here's my view...

Non legal fonts = shit

Cheap DVLA plates that are illegally spaced = shit

Pressed plates and plate surrounds = shit

Either buy a genuine "dateless" plate and display it legally, or don't waste your money.

Only non-standard font that looks half decent is the german pressed ones,

apart from that all that italics and what not is a joke
