rough start, help please - video

so i posted this about a month ago, and i thought that maybe it was just my weak battery, so i upgraded to a more powerful oem battery that was recommended by a bmw mechanic.. the problem still persists. what could this be? is it possible the alternator is out of wack or is it too early for alternator problems.. heres a video of how it starts on a good day,.. mind you that if the engine is hot then the car starts better, in the mornings.. its actually painful pressing the start button lol..

Mine did EXACTLY this and only when it was cold. It's the starter. It will get worse until it won't crank anymore. Starter is around $400 +core.

so its the starter huh.. that was gonna be my second guess.. is the starter one of those things that you should go OEM or will an aftermarket starter get the job done just the same...?

Go oem. It's not the same starter that came with the 325. All the new 328s have it. Much higher torque and rpm. The old ones had an issue in cold weather damaging the bendix bearing. It would get dry and would not allow the starter to spin or extend to the flywheel properly. You might have also noticed some grinding too. The new starters have no issues. Your issue is common with 325/330 from the '06 vintage, but only in cold weather (by cold I mean 40 or below). When mine died it smelled like burning death... Lol

so can an "underpowered" starter damage other things like the 'bendix bearing'?.. if i was to replace the starter would that be it or am i looking at fixing other things as well.. no grinding sounds thank god lol, and im in toronto so the weather is brutally cold.. :S

The bendix bearing is part of the starter. The bendix is that part that extends to the flywheel. The bearing is just a price of rubber that holds it in place. That little rubber peice is what goes bad. It's not really that it's underpowered. My brother lives in Toronto and his 328's starter is fine. Us 325 guys got all the crap before it was fixed

Do you know where the starter is located in the engine bay? Is it possible for something like my HID angels harness to touch and interfere? I have a '10 328i and its doing this...I noticed this once I hardwired my radar detector into the front light dome. Could that cause this problem?

I'm also going to be recording my engine start when I get out of work. while it may not sound like that, it sounds I think rough enough for it to be a starter problem as well.

Ughhh I'm getting these symptoms....I thought it was my battery. It's only holding 11.5v

I guess I'll find out when I get it registered sometime this week.
