3FD0 Air Flow Meter – Deviation too High

And the the second one was 4B5F which I can't seem to find.

Any ideas?

I have a 4B90 I believe it is Rail Pressure Control at Engine Start, but I am not sure. It seems close to your 4B5F, but this isnt horseshoes....

Serious depends on what the 4b5f code is. I can't find it anywhere either. If its a map sensor code that might explain the excessive deviation on the airflow meter also.

Yes it's strange how that code is hard to find. There are no other codes in that range which end in an E or F. My friend said he's taking the car in next Friday so it'll be interesting to see. I'll get him to show me the diagnosis that the dealer gives him so that I can post it in here.

The closest code I see is:

4B55 Injector Cyl 2 Energy Consumption Measurement

But the last digit for the code went right to the end of the speedometer which would give it an "F" designation.

a MAF should be easy to swap, so install yours on his car, erase the fault, and go for a drive

A new/different MAF needs reprogram via BMW software.

You need to do an adaptation after changing a MAF? That's a bit surprising

Yes, this is according to BMW Advanced Diesel guide. You can also call a BMW Service center to verify this procedure.

Don't doubt it but that is ridiculous. I guess these "program to your car" things are their way to try to keep maintenance going to the dealers
