Throttle Body Spacer.....worth it?
So I stumbled upon the aFe throttle body spacer. I have heard of these on v8 mustangs and such but dont know anyone running one on our cars. So here's the big question: does it actually do anything positive for the engine?
Its a pretty cheap part, but before I buy it I would love to know if its any good.

Most of the time they're gimmicky, and the 3-5hp gains people "see" can be attributed to many other variables between dyno sessions (temperature for instance). Plus, they weight more than the money they take from your wallet, so no weight savings either .

I wouldn't bother with one. The ONLY thing we used one for (that was useful) was to have something to tap nitrous nozzles into on a TPI Corvette.

Throttle body spacers evolved from carb spacers. Carb spacers could prove beneficial in certain situations by smoothing the curve the fuel had to make in order to make it into the intake runner and prevent "puddling" in the manifold. On DI it's a non-issue.

I had one of this spacer installed on my 04 tundra V8. The salesman stayed at my hotel claiming he has installed spacers on all of local police vehicles. He claimed, spacer would increase up to 5HP, and reduce fuel consumption up to 5-10% depending on car. It was free to me, but I don't think I notice anything different in sound, performance or fuel economy.
IT IS JUST WASTE OF MONEY AND MATERIAL, LIKE THE FAKE CRAP TORNADO THAT BOBBY LIKEUS THE CAR GUY SOLD TO MANY PEOPLE. |
