That sounds about in line with my experiences; sometimes it's difficult to get the iDrive to recognize the destination you're trying to enter, but once it does it's pretty much spot on getting you there.

The navigation is awesome when I have an address but try looking up a store when the stuff the store sells fits the description of like 3+ categories. Search by name is useless in my opinion...and sometimes I really need it. I hate that with a 2007 iDrive using a 2010 Nav DVD I sometimes have to use my blackberry to find a street address for Target. Come on BMW. Wtf.

I think the 06/07/08 bmw nav sucks like wet smelly monkey balls.
I hate how you get to your destination and it doesn't say whether it's on the left of right. Another thing I hate is that you can't just do a general name search of a place without picking a category. Maybe the new LCI idrives are better... |

I used to have a Lexus that I just sold and I understand why they didn't even make the test, it is terrible compared to all of these!

I wonder how the results might vary by region. Google Maps was their reference, and it apparently got everything right. But Google Maps doesn't know that the street I live on exists (built 4 years ago), or that my eastbound freeway entrance exists (built 5 years ago), or that my address at work exists (the street was extended 8 years ago). But my 3 year old Garmin and the Verizon navigator in my phone know all these things.

When did Google Maps become the de facto standard for driving directions? The routing logic in my '09 335i is terrible compared to the Garmin I have. I have a Honda with factory navigation that has much better routing logic than my BMW.

There are two additional alternate routes available in your '09 iDrive each time you enter a destination, you do not have to take the first route... have you tried them?

Also, voice recognition does not work at all for me. I can use a dictation app on my iPhone and it gets 95% of the words correct, but my Navi does not appear to understand me at all. Our other car is a 04 Acura MDX and it's Navigation/Voice recognition is much easier to use. The lease on my 08 is up soon, and I'm wondering if these problems are fixed on the new and impoved iDrive? |

Are you serious? The remote touch makes it so much better & there are some who claim that it is the best available.

Yes, and they're not much better. Plus, my Garmin and Honda gives me the best route using their primary routing logic, so I don't even need to see their alternate routes. If BMW designed the system correctly, I shouldn't even feel the need to see alternate routes unless I want to avoid a particular road.

I prefer my Android phone loaded with goggle map and navigation. For places with no cell coverage the Nuvi gets the job done. I'm certainly not paying $2k for any nav package.
