Maybe it's something to do with iDrive in conjunction with smart playlists then...? Dunno.. I'll play around with different combinations when I get the chance. I have another iPod I can try, too.

The iPod usually shows several smart playlists without owner intevention, such as top 25. My new ,,random`` smart playlist works fine and shows up in alpha order with all the others (it´s called ,,zufall´´ - unfortunate that it´s at the bottom, even switching to Engl. ,,random`` wouldn´t really move it up the ladder - maybe *zufall to get it up there) and all other playlists are present.

I called mine All Random and then the other playlists dissappeared. After deleting All Random they all reappeared!

Sorry to bump my old subject, but I am still looking for a way to get the smart playlist to co-exist with manually-created playlists. As has been said, all other playlists disappear when a smart playlist exists on the iPod.

Has anyone else had any luck?

Wait.. I just had an idea.. maybe it's because my smart playlist contains so many items (over 11,000 songs atm).. Hmm.. I'll try limiting it to some smaller number tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Figured it out, and it sucks. Basically, it cuts playlists off when the combined total number of songs in them is greater than 5000. The good news is, it will include the first playlist beyond that number and all of its songs.

To illustrate:

Playlist #1 - 1000 songs
Playlist #2 - 3000 songs
Playlist #3 - 1000 songs
Playlist #4 - 1 song <-- this one and all after it won't show

Another example:

Playlist #1 - 1000 songs
Playlist #2 - 3000 songs
Playlist #3 - 999 songs
Playlist #4 - 11,362 songs
Playlist #5 - 1 song <-- this one and all after it won't show

So basically, you can have 4999 songs in playlists combined, and put your Random playlist at the end. All will then appear.

IMHO this is a bug, and really, really sucks. Almost totally defeats the purpose of having a huge iPod, unless you don't use playlists.
