Cruise control problem

i may be being stupid here but...

my cruise control stalk on my 57 335i used to move in 2 increments, 1 push for 1mph increase and a longer push for a 5pmh increase.

So Im driving to work this morning and my cruise control stalk wont physically do the longer push, it will only move to the short push?

have i inadvertantly changed some setting?

ive had a slightly similar issue but on 2 different cars
my last e90 was a 325i m sport saloon auto...it had the 2 options 1mph and 5 mph increase
my current 320d m sport manual has the 1mph increase only

i would also like to know if this is something that can be changed on settings
