Same question as Linkz. I bought an aluminum brush e-brake handle to match the inside trim of my car. We all have detailed instructions on removing the boot and then the handle, but how do we go about removing the button for the hand brake, as mine is aluminum brush to match the rest of the handle?

Okay update...After transferring this shifter between cars i guess the housing got a little worn out/loose...but the thing actually came off when i shifted hard into 2nd...

I had to super glue it down...now it's stuck on there, if i sell my car i lose the shifter...but at least i know it won't come off when im at the track running it...

So I finally installed my e-brake handle and will post pictures soon. I realized that I didn't have to take off my brake handle button, and that my aluminum button simply fit over the black button. The bad part about this is that it's always loose and pulls off rather easily, but it looks nice.

I have not seen any photo of the aluminum button. If you say it is a cover that fits over the existing button, then you can use silicone to glue it in place. Slide the alum button cover into place, then apply silicone to the open end/seam, that should keep the button from moving. And if you decided to take the alum button off, silicone is very easy to remove (it is not a permanent bonding agent like super glue which can damage the surfaces). The hand brake handle goes over the button and will cover that part of the button so no one will know you use silicone.

I'm picking up an 08 335xi coupe sometime in January and after reading everything that people have written will probably swap out my Ebrake handle and Shift knob. My question is whether the shift knob for the E92 part #: 25118037308 work with my car and I was wondering what the hand brake handle part number is for my car. Thanks a lot

Where did you get your aluminum button?

ok, I picked up the cable ties at home depot (pack of 10 8" for $2.6). Drove up home after work and wanted to do this DIY even though it had become dark.

The shifter and brake handle popped right off; it was so easy. Reading the posts, I was thinking that it is going to be so hard, but it was a piece of cake. Cutting off the original cable tie was an issue. Instead of scissors and cutting on the top use shears and cut at the bottom.

I put the new tie while the handle was still off (make sure boot is not upside down).

Thanks for great instructions on this DIY!!

I did these yesterday. The knob makes a lot of difference. It's great.

Hardest part of the install was actually taking off the e-brake handle. It wouldn't budge.

Yup...this M shifter sucks in a big way and its not cause it has gotten worn out/loose, this happened to me right after I installed it. I ripped the knob right out on a handfull of ocasions going from 1st to 2nd when launching hard and racing. I want to glue it as well but I'm afraid it wont come off if I ever wanna change it again. Any advice besides on an adhesive? Of course shifting less aggressive would be a good start too but it really doesn't take that much force to pull mine out.
