snowflake button?

in my car there is a picture of a little snowflake, when i click it and it lights up the air blows out cold if i have the dial set to a low temp. that seems normal, but what i dont get is if i turn the dial up to say 84 degrees fahrenheit the air comes out hottt. so i dont get it does it turn the A/C off but the light stays on or what?

Hi,

When you turn the temp up and have the snowflake button pushed, the A/C is still working but since hot coolant is flowing through the heater core, the net result is hot air.

However, since the A/C is still working, the air is being dehumidified. This is what you would typically do in cold weather to defog the windshield. In may cars, the A/C comes on automatically when you select the defog mode but fortunately on our cars, this isn't the case.

Regards.

Youre turning the temperature up higher and wondering why it is getting hotter?

The snowflake is the A/C compressor and it will still run at higher temps and dry the air, but the temp is what it is. you dont make sense.

No, only if needed, to defog. It robs power from the engine, after all.

I was under the impression that pressing this button made it snow. I have been sadly misinformed.

Not necessarily. Winter air isn't always in need of drying. In fact, it can often be drier in winter than in summer in many places.

Use it only when needed, and it will be obvious when it is needed by the way your windows start to fog up. Otherwise, you are simply wasting energy and drying out your sinuses.

True, if you are only talking about the outside winter air. The environment INSIDE the car is different assuming you and your passengers are alive and breathing.

Ever wonder why your car fogs up when your making out with a smoking hot chick? You exhale a good bit of moisture into the car.

Did you just ask if 84º is colder than 84º?

i was trying to understand if having the air condition on but having the temp turned up all the way was the same as having the temp all the way with the little snowflake button off

If we stop bashing the OP and actually listen to what he's saying, it actually makes a lot of sense, and poses a great question, albeit on a more scientific level.
I give OP mad props for keeping it cool amongst all the silly commentaries. Bravo sir.

+1

You will experience 84 deg different at 20% or 90% humidity! The A/C dries the air up so it "feels" more comfortable!
