I still can't figure out if this thread is serious or not, after 2.5 years. Are we still really thinking that something will be done here? Or is this a huge circlejerk that I am just too daft to realise?

Apparently it is possible but we need someone to come up with a solution. The only problem is loaning someone an XI to research this more.

I don't think it is at all a circle jerk. We've had tuners touch on so many of our cars functions small and large. The ability to have a safe method to turn your awd on and off without having to worry about the transfer case exploding or anything crazy would be amazing for performance...

Can you all imagine having the ability to have awd for launch at the drag strip and then have it convert to 90 to 100% rwd.. our ets and traps would be great! Plus - it would just be an awesome feature to have... I have my money on Spiider. If he were closer I'd let him tinker with my car for the next few months cause if he broke something it's under warranty.

We should get as many xi and xdrive people to send terry an email saying this something we'd want and would pay a reasonable price for it. especially since he has an x drive car local now. Which has been the only thing that he's talked about for years that he can't find one. Let's not just let this getaway. JokerGerm had a dream years ago when this thread started.. lol.. Let's not let the little guy down!

Seriously, let's do a petition or something and get emails going to Terry.

It's either that or a complete x drive system including the control module sitting on the test bench I can hook up to...if anyone has access to parts they are willing to donate/ship my way that works too.
Bumping this up
If anyone know of a good parts car, pm Spiider or contact him at

If this was integrated into the JB4 software, I'd easily shell out some cash for it

^^^Not yet, he's been out of town all this feb.

He has all the reverse engineering tools he may need for this job.

The big question is finding a car that he can work on.

He told me he is going to start with the canbus and BMW learning curve a little more once he has a car to dedicate to this full time.

He understands the system and how it works, its just finding a car to work on. soon hopefully..

So let me see if I understand this correctly. If I unplug this fuse I could put 20,000 miles on the car and the odometer would not log the miles? When I plug the fuse back in would the miles be what they were before I pulled out the fuse?

I think it'd be faster if you just pulled the fuse and drove around the block for an hour or so, then put it back and checked - rather than waiting for someone to reply here :P
