The only bit of the whole ConnectedDrive that I wouldn't be without is the Send-to-car. This is brilliant. Find place on Google Maps, Android phone etc. and then it just magically appears on your Satnav. Miles better than whirling the wheel and 5-digit postcodes. The BMW Live I never use, to be honest.

Send to car is great and properly useful.
The route planning is useful for meets, especially if you are leading, as you aren't limited to simple destinations, but can literally plan a whole route and then just send it to the car.

Here's what it can do:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t.../bmw_live.html The send to car would be eliminated by enabling this option, however it does look to have equally as useful elements, browsing etc. I just have to have it coded for a one-time payment, and of course any data used by the service through my cell phone bluetooth connection |

Send to car is indeed great. It was the only function I used though so I decided not to renew my subscription.
Will have to rely on googe maps now if I can't find my destination on the Idrive.... which could happen as I don't have full postcode searching.

It was okay when it was free but decided not to renew it and can't really say that I missed it. Mrs ab s now driving the 3 so she really doesn't miss it as she really wouldn't know what to do with it! Seriously though I can't see that it is worth £120.

Was brilliant for me when we found ourselves travelling to a hotel on Christmas Day when the missus realised she'd forgotten the address. A quick press of "Assist" in the iDrive got us a helpful lady who found the address and sent it to the Nav. All well and good. However, when we arrived the hotel had no record of our booking and were too hectic to help out. Another press of the Assist and I explained the problem. Leave it with me, she said, and then phoned back two minutes later. She made the reservation on our behalf and sent the location of the new hotel to the Nav and the phone number into my contacts.
Thankfully I'm no longer a motoway drone but if I were, I'd have it.

A phone could also do the same thing for free ......... or even just remember the name of the hotel and search for that in the Nav system.
Wouldn't trust the BMW lady to get a decent deal on the new hotel reservation either which is why I would have reverted to doing that by myself. |

Fair enough. Didn't really want to search in the Nav for the first one as was driving in rain at the time and I didn't know the names or telephone numbers of any other hotels in the vicinity off the top of my head for the second issue. Not sure who I would have phoned "for free" to illicit that information but as the BMW Assist was part of the new-car package it made sense to use it.

I know, but not easily whilst driving in torrential rain down unlit B roads with only dark farmers' field entrances in which to pull in. The OP's question was "do you use it" and I demonstrated an example in which I found it useful. I'm not trying to convince you - don't buy it if it's no use to you and / or you can get its functionality for free.
