Fitting a BMW Strut Brace on 335(i or xi)
has anyone been able to fit BMW's CF, or aluminum, front strut brace sucseffuly to there 335 ( i or xi ) ?
i know BMW says it's a no go, but thought someone may have been able to make it work. on that note, how about BMW's CF air intake performance upgrade on a 335 ( i or xi ). that for your input here. |

Yes some folks have done it by propping it up with washers. Check the DIY section. Or if you get an open element filter, it will fit as it is the stock airbox's height that is causing clearance issues for the brace.
Next time, try searching, or posting in the suspension section. GL! |

If you want the brace for performance, get the OEM M3 strut brace. It fits without any issues. It is a "V" shape that attaches to the firewall. It doesn't look all that great though, since most of it is covered up under a cowling. So if you are adding the brace for aestethic purposes, it may not be the right one.

Yes. Aluminum SB in place however, unable to fit "properly" with stock intake installed.

The Cross strut brace fits with or without stock airbox. check the suspension forum with a search , saw a picture there.

The M3 v brace is nothing like the stock brace in your car already. The existing brace only attaches to one bolt on the strut tower, while the M3 brace bolts to all 3. The hardcore track guys are all running the M3 brace, not the tower-to-tower braces available. So again, if you are looking for maximum performance, the M3 brace is the way to go. If you are looking for a little bracing but more worried about aesthetics (like wanting a carbon fiber brace), then get the tower-to-tower style.

Scott - is it just a matter of degrees of improvement between a cross tower brace versus the M3 brace? Or are you saying that a cross tower brace offers no significant improvement over the current OEM one?
I might do the M3 brace since XI 335 are kind of out of luck related to suspension improvements |

anyone know if or think a strut tower brace might help (stop the car from twisting as much ??) (i know there is also some crazy X brace thing for the bottom of the car.. has anyone played with that ??) (and if by chance, anyone else had the same creaky window/dash problem.. what was it, and how did you 'un-creak' it) |

Are you talking about the chassis brace located underneath the car?

Have a look at this specific thread; see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=strut. I made this modification on my car, and it's worked fine -- no rattles or problems after 2,000 miles driving on it.

If your car is creaking because of chassis flex then you definitely should try the M3 brace, and maybe the Hotchkis rear chassis brace. IMO braces are even more important on the xi.
