$534.27 with tax and shipping, I'm thinking about ordering it from stevens creek at 25% off before they figure out what they've got going on

My SA Jason (Internet sales) at Nick Alexander in LA told me that they are doing the upgrade for 699.00 which includes install. Sounds fair to me!!! He rieterated basically what others have said about the power and the elimination of lag.

I'm sure other dealers will eventually wake up and fall in line with there pricing.

Hope that helps

These dealers are all over the place in pricing
Weatherford in Berkeley Ca shows 778 while BMW of Concord Ca shows 846.
I originally bought my car from Concord so I'm going to talk to my SA and see if I can get it done at or below Weatherford's price of 778.

Here's a new twist. Talked to a dealer regarding the installed price on their website. Here was the response. "The price does include re-programming. That is normally $299 additional." Go figure again.

Dont want a flame war here but for those who have installed this tune, do you really feel the 20 hp and torque in everyday driving. I like it cause it's BMW but I'm leaning towards aftermarket flash tunes

Why not do both??

I ordered the Performance Edition tune from the factory, and I'll stick with just that for the first few months of ownership, but then I'm going to slap an aftermarket tune piggyback for more power.

so their installed price included the flash? Alexander still seems to have the best deal of all at $699

from what i've seen, people are feeling the difference. Something tells me that this is not because 20hp is noticeable, but rather because the tune is more like 35-40hp, like the bump to the 335is, but is marketed as just 20

Since this is a software only upgrade, I don't know why installation and re-programming are two different things. Totally confused at this point with this dealer. Other dealers are not quoting installation + re-programming.

I know it is hard to beleive but you do feel the difference right away.
Stronger in lower RPMs and still pulling in the higher RPMs. Better throttle response and a little less lag.

I'm sure that the 20 hp increase will satisfy a 16 year old for about 30 minutes but the real performance inthusiast doesn't worry about the warranty issues because would rather get more power out of their car. Active Autowerke has, from what I believe, to be one of the best products on the market. Their offer software flashes for both the N54 and N55 motor which produce around an 80 hp increase in power. Their products are always tested for reliability for about a year before they are released onto the market. I have never heard of an issue with the software that Active provide!

It goes with saying that a stock N54 or N55 can have issues with reliability if the owner takes his car and races it on the track. Just because you upgrade your software to a more powerful tune, does not necessarily mean that you will blow your motor or transmission. I believe that the driver will determine this more than the actual tune. Make sure that you do research on whatever tune that you decide to purchase but i believe that Active Autowerke have the best on the market for performance and reliability combined!

I just ordered a stage 1 and black grills from the states. If it gets here before car goes inside for the winter time I will let you know how it feels. I got a lot of open autobahn's and the ring near my house. I am dreading how much it is going to cost for install here.

There are some places selling it for $530 uninstalled as well. I wonder if this is an error or they plan to get you on the installation.

I will have my kit installed on Friday. The dealer will only charge me for 45 min but said that this might take 3 hours total depending on the current software version. He said that BMW software updates can be tricky and only a few techs can actually do this at their dealership.

I will post an update after install is completed.

Aren't they supposed to bring all cars up to the latest software version? It may take 3 hours to do that, but it is covered under warrantee.

one would think that would be part of the maintenance plan. if and when i decide to do the tune and they don't update it for free, I'll just complain about my comfort access or something else acting up and make them do the update anyway
