Additional clear coat on rim?

Is it possible to add an additional clear coat to a brand new (hyper silver) rim to add additional protection of the finish?

The reason I ask is that I am considering the AG M359 rims in hyper silver, but due to a bad previous personal experience, and a couple of other online reviews, I would like an additional layer to protect the finish.

I have been told by a vendor that it's hard to get good a solid, protective coating on a hyper silver finish. Has anyone else heard this?

I have the same rims but in black. Held up perfect. But if you curb it, it won't matter. Just drive carefully.

I actually bought a set of the AG M359s a year ago and had severe chipping on all rims after only 150 miles of driving.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=800429

They ended up refinishing them as bright silver (which has held up very well) at no cost to me, but the contrast against my SG car doesn't "pop" as much as the hyper silvers did. I'm however now again considering ordering another hyper silver set. I just want to make sure the finish actually lasts this time.

Black finish is not a problem, apparently a hyper silver finish is not as thick and more susceptible to chipping versus other finishes.

The chipping was not from curbing, only 150 miles of careful city driving.

Thanks, that looks like a good option. Is this something detailing shops normally keep in their inventory?

I don't think so. You might have to go to someone who offers it. Search/Ask in your local forums to see any shops that do it.

I found a place not too far from my house who offers this product. Will call them tomorrow to get a quote for a set of rims.

Had the same issues. Had paint chips from the install, which I blame on the installer. But also developed pitting, paint chips, and paint imperfections over time. Will probably refinish them later. A bit disappointed with Avant Garde and paying for shipping is ridiculous. It pretty much renders the warranty useless. And I agree it shows the company doesn't even believe in their own product. If I knew about this before, I would have bought a different brand. Read so many glowing reviews about these that I never expected subpar quality from them.
