Totally agree, very expensive although the black grilles are good value.
Thats BMW though very expensive for everything. I guess when you have built a premium brand you can charge premium prices, look at Johnnie Walker for example. |

They're very good parts, the fit and finish are second to none. The parts feel really well made, yes they're a bit expensive but I suppose some items can be justified.
Will they make some accessories for the E70? Darren are you visiting any local dealerships soon? I was HW at Tuesday. Please pm me if you prefer. Last edited by flyfs6; 07-09-2009 at 04:51 PM.. |

MY 325d MSport had a load of BMW Performance parts added by the dealer (it was ex demo); front and rear bumper, side skirts, wheels.
I like the fact it gives the car a unique look, but I would have never paid for them myself. They didn't seem to add much onto the car's value at purchase. The 19" Performance wheels look absolutely stunning but the ride is far to harsh. And god help me if I ever kerb one at the prices they are new. |

Darren,
What about performance upgrades for M cars? I'm not only thinking along the lines of the current line up (which are not marketed for the M cars anyway) but also items such as Carbon Ceramic brake...Porsche do it so why are BMW sending M owners to the aftermarket? |

Hmmm,
This thread, I feel, could go badly wrong if its not moderated and if Darran doesnt come back to answer questions and respond to feedback, however, with the best hope that it goes well - this is what I have to say... I have the Carbon Fibre Front Splitters - the fitment is very good, but the parts themselves are not cost effective against replica parts of a similar or equal quality. I also have a 335D and echo Carls words. The 335D is not catered for like the 330D is - its clearly down to unit sales, but its still annoying as the 335D should be the flagship and it stands to reason to me that a higher percentage of 335D owners will look to modify than 330D owners would, so the simple number of cars sold should not be the only variable considered. Both the 335I and 335D suffer from a lack of rear diffuser options - the dual exit exhaust is not covered by any part, this is an oversight for the above reasons I feel. The lack of dealer interest/knowledge/support is unfortunate. As these are BMW endorsed parts, I would expect ANY dealer to know what I am talking about when I ask questions. In addition, dealers dont seem to like cars which have been touched by these parts - although I would never expect an increase in value, I am aware of at least one dealer who frowns heavily on my carbon splitter, even though its a BMW part. I am encouraged that the range is available, but I am pissed I cant take advantage due to my car, and that if I do, I will have to deal with idiots to get the parts I want, and when I get them, my car may be marked down in terms of value or P/X standard as a result. My ten penneth!! Matt |

Everything that Matt said +1
But, at those prices, it forces you to go aftermarket. Some parts you know are simply inflated for the brand. OT but I still can't get over being quoted £400 for installing an ipod cable. Seriously, it's a cable. But things like diffusers, splitters, sterring wheels etc... you buy from BMW, you should get it installed there. If the parts are coming in with decent margins then BMW should look at throwing in fitting, or at least subsidising it, to make it more attractive. |

YES!!! very costly....but ok...its BMW at the end of the day....we know already the cost of servicing....so no surprise for some carbon fibre bits....they do the same...
BUT WHAT IS ANNOYING IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. AND PARTS DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT THEY ARE TALKIN ABOUT WITH FITMENT!!!!....it was Tony, our local tech expert who told me that the carbon strut won't fit to the 335i !!! I spoke to 2 dealerships and they said yes it will fit and it cost £550 circa...PARTS ONLY!... |

Thanks for the replies. I am not clued up on fitment times etc, so can't help with that - I was interested to know what you all thought of them. My opinion is that they are superbly well made and look fantastic and are priced as you would expect from BMW. I was interested to know if the feeling was positive or negative as I am considering promoting them more heavily in out group than we currently do. As a carbon addict myself I would love to get behind them more. Thanks for the feedback.

I would not say they are all over priced, but some are
Take the Handbrake handle and gaitor for example i got it delivered to my door for £58 Now an aftermarket handle and a alcantara gaitor to the same sort of spec would cost more,it would of been nice if they added some colour to stitching to make it a little more individual One gripe is why advertise stuff when its not available tho Take the shift knob It`s on world wide back order, not good enough!! |

To echo some other comments and add to what I put before,
The whole things FEELS half arsed to me... I get catalogues about it, a DVD with all the parts on (which by the way is hilarous when you try to use it to add parts to a 335D - as there are basically none haha) and yet noone understands what I am on about when I ring, parts are never in stock or available, and the whole thing about value being deducted from P/X etc. Its madness - its a great idea, marketing at its best, with more or less zero consideration gone into what might happen if anyone wants to take it further. There are exceptions - Darren I dont know how good you or your guys are to deal with, but EVERY BMW dealer BAR NONE could learn a lesson or two from Chris O'Dea at Woodmans BMW in Blackpool. The term 'Overnight parts from Japan' as quoted in a certain film springs to mind when I think of him - he knows what I want, when I want it, without a part number, for the right price, delivered to my door... and if its broken - he will fix it!! I have bought much of the Performance range for both the 335d and my now sold 130i so I'm obviously a big fan, my experience at Solihull Synter has been nothing but positive with excellent all round knowledge, it's refreshing to be able to buy desireable parts that are fully approved with no warranty or service issues, yes some of the parts can be deemed expensive but the quality is unquestionable, if Synter get behind these products and actively promote no doubt we should all realise the benefit, as the question has been asked on here perhaps Synter should consider setting up a flat discount rate for Forum members for those people that are too shy to negotiate.
On the subject of costing just try and get a Brembo 6 pot set up for the prices asked by BMW, some of the kit is almost a bargain.

I'm sure most 335 owners would love to get an upgraded BBK... unfortunately, like most things, they don't really do one for the 335.
I'll reiterate Darren, the key to selling more is combining the price of the part with install. Take a hit on one or the other. People will be willing to pay a few extra quid for an official part, but not hundreds. |
