any downside to Swift coilover springs?

I have an e90 335 XI that I daily drive and autocross. I am currently planning to get a set of fortune auto coilovers. Are there any downsides to getting the optional Swift Springs besides price? I was somewhat surprised when the vendor seemed to be steering me away from swift springs.

Was vendor steering you away from swift springs or the spring rates you were requesting? The swift springs are an upgrade for the fortune autos. So not sure why they would steer you away from it. I didnt have that experience but i can see them steering you away from high spring rates depending on use.

We hadn't even started talking spring rates. His opinion seemed to be that the swift Springs gave a worse ride. I was surprised by this since I had heard positive things about them over all in the past.

Third party. Its possible he was equating swift springs with higher rates as their other springs don't go as high.

ride "quality" depends a lot on the spring rate. you can get swift springs in just about any rate, so it doesn't make sense that he is telling you they ride worse without even talking about what spring rates you want.

it's also possible, that he doesn't stock the swift springs and it's more time and work for him to modify the kit for you. Maybe he's lazy and doesn't want to bother with it, lol.

If the person was steering you away from Swift, they clearly do not know what they are talking about and are trying to sell you a spring with a bigger profit margin.

I have driven countless H&R and Eibach springs on these E90s and time after time I am extremely disappointed. The ride is too harsh, the springs don't match the shocks, the rear droops too much. The spec-r springs are linear and have 0 sag compared to the other progressive springs setups out there. Swift is highly regarded among multiple race teams here in SoCal that run BMWs.

Also, if you go with a swift spring conversion (for coil over setup), you can choose from a very broad range of spring rates, with a relatively low cost of swapping.

Hope this helped.

Mike

I did end up discussing things directly with FA and he felt there was no disadvantage to the swift springs besides cost.
