you can stitch the manual boot to it i would guess but the reason for the newer baseplates is that they would fit with the DCT shifter without the need for any modification.

Thanks initially the project was just to get the actual shifter functioning but as more and more requests are made it just takes a little time to get the proper parts and confirm everything

Thanks to everyone for your understanding.

I had someone already confirm this but need another source. Could someone please disconnect their baseplate completely from the plugs underneath and then try to go through the gears.. P,R,N,D then DS and try shifting gears up and down. I just want to make sure that the baseplate can be completely removed and it's not required for DS mode.

as long as it moves over to steptronic and DS shows in the display and you can still shift up and down it will work fine.

as soon as they come in i'll have someone test it all out who then will give direct feedback here and then we're ready to rock... and roll

I think BMW sent them luftpost which unfortunately isn't the fastest method.. it's airmail non the less and wasn't cheap but they went out on the 5th I believe so they should be in anytime now but then again it's only been 6 business days.

I already tried to go that route.

I can get same knob/boot you just bought for $129 shipped to me - after talking with schulrog about what else I would need - unfortunately, even though you have the knob, it's still not PnP even if you did buy the special harness from schulrog

Shift knob still needs to be modded - which means now you have to send it in to schulrog, have the mods done, buy the harness, install

By that time might as well just have got in on the GB...

I just figured it wasn't worth all the trouble. If you know what he mods with regards to the shifter + know how to make your own harness then you're set

haha i wish it were that easy to get the knob functioning lol

I spent 6 weeks just getting it to work with an original baseplate.. it involves making a custom circuit board with components on it and then of course the wiring harness that feeds into the circuit board not to mention the mods to the shifter.

The trick now is to make it work without the original baseplate... I had someone else try going through the paces without the original baseplate connected and it seems that there's a small issue.... when shifting the shifter into DS, the car does not recognize DS mode.. meaning it stays in D regardless unless the original baseplate is connected again.

can anyone else confirm this please?

PS: as you can tell i'm working on this basically day and night by the timestamp of the post.. it's 5:30AM MST now

Just had my Base plate off and disconnected and the car switches to DS and shift but it switches itself back to D after a few seconds and shifts itself back to 6th or the proper gear

Roger,

Last time I tested this for you, I did not take my car for a drive in DS mode, I have since driven with the harness disconnected from the base plate and I have also noticed that in DS mode it automatically shifts back into D.

Sounds like a bit more work is in order with the harness, damm I was looking forward to getting this installed soon.

Any idea how long this hiccup will take to resolve ?

Sure you will work it out shortly, can wait
