HELP: trying to find boost leak
The car has been running at around 8psi max full throttle ( JB4 map5 ) diffinately not the 14-16psi i was making before. Absolutely no low end boost / torque whatsoever.
so i think i may have a boost leak, im taking apart my diverter valves from the charge pipe and i notice there is a lot of oil inside the tubes. Just a quick question - is that normal? for there to be oil in the tubes? |

Yes oil is normal if you don't have a catch can.
Also look at the FMIC connections to see if there is a leak. You may also want to log a map1 run where you know the exact boost target. Mike |

Oil in the tubes is fine, However you have oil on the outside of the diverter valves and on the chargepipe. Obviously if oil can get through so can compressed air. Your stock dv's are on their way out, It has happened to me before and i fixed it with a BOV/ chargepipe upgrade. Some peoples DV's hold up the through the life of their car and some DV's just give out and start to leak. You could also upgrade just you diverter valves with FORGE motorsport valves.

im still under warrenty but BMW wont look at it and insist that the car feels normal, i'd have to pay them to do a diagnostic check. No error codes were thrown so whats the point in doing a diagnostics?

Same thing happened to me. My front stock diverter valve was leaking pretty bad. I upgraded to aftermarket bov's (the ones helix sells) and it fixed the problem.

I'm low in boost also, I have jb4 on map 7 I'm maxing out at 13psi. All my connections are tight and I don't see oil around stock dv's.
I'm going to check vacuum lines tomorrow But how do I test dv's and waste gates???

I would def get some logs in to see whats up...
How do you know for sure the leak is coming from the DV's? Clean the sealing areas of the DV's and install them properly back in the cahrgepipe. check the FMIC connectors aswell etc. But get those logs in to Mike to see what exactly is going on and to see if you got any codes. |
