Ok a bunch of us met up for the Rev It Up Racing driving event here at Fed-ex Field, MD.
www.revitupracing.com KL2DC, bavarian19, sixspeedsam and shimshimhada were in attendance this Sun morning at 07:00. Ase2dais had gone the day before, and it looks like FrankoQ overslept and missed the date and I am not sure what happened to thd13? Overall, the event was below expectations specially coming hot off the Mazda Zoom Zoom Live a couple of weeks ago. The disappointment was made worst by the fact that we each paid about $40 to drive here while most events were free. We were disappointed by the amount of seat time, the course layout, the cars available, the lack of facilities and the lack of freebies. Basically, we did not derive value both in terms of money and time spent. But nonetheless, cars were still abused in our hands.... Event basically centers around: driving instruction, car clinics (grip, car control, racing line), Chevy SS ride and drive (C6, Malibu SS, Cobalt SS, Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS and Trailblazer SS) and the main event, the peformance challenge (2 laps, each lap counts towards national time board, best national lap wins car etc). There were other side events (extra cost) like gokarts, On Star demo, XM demo, Chevy lineup demo etc Well, truthfully none of our dc metro illuminaries managed to beat the national target time of 38 seconds around the lap, the best we did was mid 41s (KL2DC, *ahem* ). With more practice and better familiarity with the rental-car grade Cobalt, perhaps we could've made significant inroad but given the limited seat time, that was the best we could do...I know, I know. The course instruction was an interesting 10-15 minutes but other than that the most fun we had was wringing the vette and other SS cars on the Free Run course. We stayed until about 10:30 that's when we called it quits and AJ went off while the rest of us continued to Old Town Alexandria, to Hard Times Cafe for some chili and some pre-noon beer Well at the very least, it was certainly great once again hanging out with some e90posters. We hope to have more people come out at future (and better) events.

I must say that I didnt believe it was worth the $40 I spent, and the lack of Z06 hot lap didnt make it any better.
I will say that I did enjoy tossing the C6 around the courses. While its not the best handler, you can still have some good old fashioned fun in it... Overall I give it about a 2 out of 5. It could have been worse... they could have supplied us with Ford's |

Yeah, probably not the best money I've ever spent -- lesson learned. Best part of the event ... lunch at Hard Times afterwards
And a PSA for everyone even remotely entertaining the thought of getting an Impala or Monte Carlo SS -- make sure you pick up some Boater's insurance! Row, row, row your Monte Carlo, gently down the street... ugh, what DOGS. |

Glad to see you fellas had a good time, even though it wasn't at the event itself. Sorry I missed it (I know, there's an echo in here) but I had to work. Sundays are just not a good day for me.

Great Photos Guys!
.. yeah ! I agree, I didnt want to post personal comments first about the event and wanted to have you guys have a take on it. But tell you what !? .... that was my first Corvette drive and it definitely opened my eyes on how GM can make great cars if it puts its heart on it AJ can definitely be a Corvette Guy from that pose and Donny himself seems very well at home in it too. David pose, like a true bimmerguy he is, seems like he didnt want to get caught seen in a Corvette, np Im an e46 guy myself David. :rocks: nice to see other members made it too, its not the event that makes it, its the company you keep :

Ase,
Missed you at the event, it would've been great to tackle that target time together. I do agree, at the end of the day, its about good company. I thought the corvette was unrefined. The interior is nasty, an extra $100 in production costs would really help that interior out. There was a lot of heat coming out of the transmission tunnel, the car was falling apart (exterior and interior) and some units felt looser than some. I did like the style of the vette, the feel of the engine and the sound of the exhaust. Just wish it was a more quality piece... Looking forward to the Lexus event....

well, compared the Corvette to the USS Monte Carlo, at least I didnt get sea sick I love the torque on the vette, I took it out several times and as soon as I hand it back, person next inline were complaining about burnt rubber. Burnt rubber is fragrance ...my track time was normal btw 44 secs, not bad for I guy trying to get his head upright driving while wearing those heavy duty helmets lolz

I was also at a slow 44.9 sec... With a helmet on, I could not even sit upright in the car... Forget rotating your head when its about to go throught the roof of the car... I blame my slow time on that... |
