Have tried everything under the sun, and they keep coming back over time. And no, pest companies don't guarantee they won't come back for good, so I refuse to keep using them.

Noticed the last company used a product called 'MaxForce', which is small granules. It worked, but they came back a few months afterwards. Found it, bought it (not cheap), and didn't work this time around. Stupid ants somehow recognized it, I guess .

I'm talking big ants. Every time they're killed, they pop up nearby. They have their 'hill' right at the edge of the cement next to the street (this is the area between the sidewalk and street that is usually landscaped). And they also keep making holes between the ashpalt and the cement. Hope I'm making sense.

Anyway, we're environmentally friendly people, but we've had it with this particular ant hill, so we're ready for more unorthodox methods to get rid of them. A friend mentioned diesel, but he wasn't sure. I obviously rather try something less drastic first. All comments welcome. By the way, there're tons of land around my house, and they're welcome there; just not my house . Thanks.

Around here they tend to be seasonal. The main thing is clean, clean, and clean some more. What are they getting into, if its the cupboards empty them out clean everything and wait a couple of day before you put the stuff back in.

If you can find where they are coming in that bait/poison stuff outside helps.

I don't know if the company Orkin has an office in your area but I would definitely try them out. I had a serious problem with some roaches almost 6 years ago. Had ants too but they didn't annoy me as much so I didn't specify I wanted them gone. They put "orange oil" all over the place and both the ants and roaches disappeared for good.

i've had this problem before- this method has worked for me rather well:

go to home depot and buy a box of "ant block"

it is made by a company called "Amdro" as a home perimeter bait. it is made up of delay action granules that must NOT be used with any pesticides.

Every few weeks I go around my house to look for ant trails- i then dump some granules right on the trail. If i find the nest, I pepper the nest with the stuff and wait. Within a few days, there will be less ants, within about a week, the queen should be dead. the other ants will follow suit a few days more.

it takes patience, but it works well. If you use bug spray with this, it will not work as the ants will not take the granules. the secret is to be consistent and get them before they come into your house.

Ortho Home defense products have worked well for me.

I buy the home spray which I use around the perimeter of my house. I then use the granular they sell to surround the house again. I then use the lawn defense stuff that you put in a spreader and kills insects in the lawn.

So if they happen to make it through all 3 lines of defense then the get smashed with a shoe.

If you have fire ants, didn't read what kind of ants, you may be in a losing battle. Those little suckers leave scares on me from their bites.

Had an ant problem two years ago during the summer. I poured bleach around the perimeter of the house, and they've disappeared. I do that every 6 months. Only problem I have now is crickets running around in the garage during night time.

Thanks for the suggestion folks. By the way, the ants are not near my house, but they're right where people usually park on the street. These are big ants, but thankfully not the fire ones. But there're A TON of them. The nest is pretty big. I need to put/pour something on the darn nest to either kill them, or make them relocate. Will check all the suggestions; thanks again.

Terro works well. It's sweet, so they take it back to the colony/queen. It takes a bit for the queen to die, but she will.
