I'd go so far as to label it a Mongolian clusterfuck.. pretty much the worst type.

I agree. I think there is still room for improvement, but I like iDrive.

Is this just a March 2007 thing or a progman 25 benefit?

I don't like to re-post pictures, but if you're going to have a hissy fit, here you go!

March '07 production onward... not software.

Actually, I find that AWESOME.

I suppose that depends on how easily one's mind gets boggled...

Yeah, we all know you don't like iDrive. Point taken. Is your VCR by any chance flashing "12:00"?

No, and it doesn't have leather upholstery either.. which would be about as appropriate on a VCR as a slow, buggy video game is in an automobile.

Too bad the 6 buttons aren't available for whatever mode you're in. Like 6 destinations if you choose navigation, 6 Sirius stations, 6 FM stations, ...
On my E46 there were 3 sets of 6 Sirius presets.

Here's an interesting thing I found. I programmed Sirius channel 22 from the rock category. While listening to that channel, if I hit the idrive knob to go back to the station list it would only list the rock stations, 14 through 23 or something. If I wanted to go to 7 or 8 I'd have to navigate up to the category list and choose all stations or pop. So, I reprogrammed Channel 22 to the same button but from the all station list. Now when I hit the go back arrow, I can scroll to any Sirius station. Much easier. I still haven't filled up my 6 buttons.

My car seems to have 8 shortcut buttons and no 'fm/am' or 'mode' button ???
Does anyone else have this?

That's because you're in Europe. North America has the FM and MODE buttons, and you have two extra programmable buttons.

Now, go forth and raise a pint to your two extra buttons!!

This would defeat the purpose of the shortcuts IMO. The idea is you press 1 - 6 and they always behave the same way, so it becomes second nature during usage. I do see what your point is in terms of practicality though. I guess you lose some and you win some.

What on earth is the logic behind this?
Why should you guys have the last two favourites forced upon you??

I agree. I like it the way it is. When I press the button for my home destination in Navi, I don't want to have to go to navigation first... as you said it would defeat the purpose.

I'm not sure exactly. Probably because Americans can only handle so many choices.
