South African 335

Anybody know how to track South Africa built 3 series when they've finished production?

Same \"boat\" as you

Ate you tracking on the BMW website? Mine is a little behind yours. Just started production on Friday. What happened to the status after "production ends"? Seems like some people find out the exact ship it's on.

Mine hasn't even entered production yet. I just got a little excited reading about tracking and didn't see anything for SA BMWs so I posted the question lol. Congrats on your car starting production! When did you order it?

I am also waiting on a SA build. My 335 was completed on 9/9 but has been waiting at the port since 9/14 and there is no eta at all.
Once you car is shipped, your CA can give you the name of the vessel and the eta.

I ordered mine on 9/29 . Got the production # about a week later and it has been in production since. I think I am looking at 1st week of December for delivery. 8-10 wks is what the CA said. Early Christmas I guess.

Sorry man. I am sure it will start soon. I was told it depended on what position in line it was from the dealer's allocation. When I ordered mine there were 3 left. Mine was already scheduled to begin first week of October and we just tweaked the specs. The other 2 would have taken longer to start even with the same order date.

Thanks for the info man. Keep us updated! My CA told me that Germany isn't building any more 2011 sedans and they're relying solely on SA for North American builds. This may explain the delay.

I read an article that said BMW was increasing SA production of 3s. Probably in preparation for the F30. My CA said all their 335 seem to come from SA.

Are the South African 3ers considered "second class"? I know that in the past, when I was looking at MB cars, everyone I spoke to didn't want anything but the German builds. There was even a C350 Sport sitting on their lot simply because no one wanted the SA car... is it really that big of a deal?

I've heard that SA built cars have slightly better quality control before leaving the factory (according to JD Power IIRC). The parts are the same, just different people assembling them. Shouldn't be a perceivable difference.

335xiRT1: Congrats! Let us know how long it takes crossing the ocean.

I have read both ways about SA cars. I did read a little more saying they were no worse and maybe a little better. That is a shocker to be honest. I will be surprised if the dealer can tell me what ship it is on.

BTW, I was off on my dates. Ordered 9/22, its still in production.

I spoke to my salesguy and he put out a inquiry about the car. It took about a day, and he got a response that it would ship out October 17.

Ugg I sure hope that doesn't happen to me. I was told mine was supposed to start production last week, but it still hasn't started. I really want to get it before winter!!!
