2011 E92 328i 6 speed fully loaded (everything) with 64k miles.

I had it for almost 4 years since 22k miles. Lately, I am starting to think it is time for something new.

I am not tired of it (heck, I just did $400+ service), but the car might need some more TLC - about $2k - and I am dreading it (refresh suspension, fix a scratch on a bumper, new front tires, alignment).

I love the car and it always brings a smile to my face esp. over 4k rpm. But, I am debating if I should trade it in and get something new to me. I am thinking about e92 M3, 6 series (F13), X6, Cayenne, 2013+ Range Rover, 911 (997), VW GTI PP, etc.

Sounds like you love your car BUT I get it! After 4 years its normal to want to something different. Go take a few of those cars you mentioned on test drives and that should tell you if your ready to move on.......or not

If a $400 service hurts then don't buy anything on your list...bc they'll a multiple of that. Only the GTi rivals the 328i in maintenance from what you mentioned. The RR? Is that a joke?

It is a good time to sell it. It will cost you a lot of money in the $75k miles range (water pump, battery, valve cover/ofhg leaks, suspension refresh etc). After that it goes back to normal maintenance and low operating cost, but if you keep it long enough that you have to stomach the loss at 75k, you may as well keep it "forever" after that.

You are dreading $2K for normal maintenance (I doubt the suspension needs anything), but you think buying a used 911 is a good idea?

Refresh and keep.....can't find a good replacement for the cost of keeping it running....especially if cars paid for!

Money is not the issue. Thinking about it, I think it's more... should I get rid of it and not bother with replacing shocks etc. My "regret" would be that I end up changing everything and then trading in the car. I would never get that $$$ back. Nothing on that list is critical. Not even alignment - I am just very anal on how the car tracks.

Maybe my initial post came as if it was solely money issue. The issue is if I should invest more in this car or trade it in.

I think I might need new shocks - that is all. Front passenger side tends to dip more (esp. noticeable over speed bumps), and the car is not as planted as it used to be.

I am not really dreading 2k. It's more of the "potential" regret. I love the car, but I am thinking it might be time for something else. The regret would come in, if I did all the work on it and then sold it.

So the other vehicles are twice to 3 times the MSRP of the 328i, which means they are a completely different class of car. So your question really doesn't make sense. If money is not an issue, just get one of your choices as a second car

No place to park them + I usually commute by metro, so they don't get much use other than weekend

A car is not an investment. It is easy for me to justify spending money on my car: no payments. People are driving around in Camry's paying 500$ a month.

My car is sitting around 86k miles, and I have spent a ton on suspension/engine/brake upgrades and have ZERO regret. It drives better than new, handles better than new, and I personally get a sense of satisfaction knowing that my car drives the way it does because I am the one who choose and installed the upgrades.

I have a 2011 E90x 6MT CPO loaded I found several states away back in 2013. I think there were only 5 like it (in any color) in the whole USA available for sale CPO at the time. I love the car and can't think of wanting or needing anything else for the foreseeable future, and I don't care much for the F cars. It's only got 45k miles (because I commute on my motorcycle) so big ticket wear items are still far away, but when they come up I'll bite the bullet because I do love the car.

It's all about how much you love driving the car. If you want new just for newness, that's another story so go for it.

BTW if you get a Range Rover you'd better keep it under some kind of warranty because its repair/maintenance will be never-ending and frequent.

I'd stay far far away from an e90/92 m3. The maintenance on that car is $$$$$$.

Plus, they have bad rod bearings more often then not. There is s good chance that the previous owner tracked the car too, with an M3.

Your best bet is a 335i or 335is e90 series with under 50k, if you intend to upgrade and stay with BMW

I recently had the same dilemma, I was staring at a fair bit of service and maintenance work amounting to about $2500. The car is in decent condition but I thought well it's paid off so I could easily trade it in for a newer E90 335 and continue to make payments for the next few years...
I do really like the car though, so I decided to read up some info online and tackle the fixes/maintenance myself, saving quite a bit of money. I purchased new tires for it, gave it a nice detail and it feels like a brand new car. Now that I've invested some more time and money into it I will keep it for at least two more years.
The grass is always greener, but cars are a depreciating asset big time, so in reality if you love your car and it has treated you well, I would say keep it.
